The tv has the red flashing standby light on all the time. It doesn't turn on even if you press the power button on the tv itself. The remote control doesn't work either, it's broken we can't find a universal remote that fits this brand of TV. Is there anything that can be done? The tv was working fine 2 days ago.
I have a Mintek DTV265 which is almost the same TV the red light don't blink it stays on as long as the Power button is on. Try turning on the TV by pressing any of the buttons on the side of the TV Channel up or down, Volume up or down , or source. If it comes on then your TV is alright. I had one of them jumbo universal remote controls and it actually had a code that worked on my TV.

Try unplugging and plugging the tv back in. Could also be a problem with the power button itself. Make sure the membrane contacts are clean and that the membrane is making contact with the contacts.
Power off the television. Wait a few minutes, then power it back on. If this does not correct the issue leave the power on, point your remote control towards the Sony television and hold the down arrow button. While holding the down arrow button press the "Power" button. Release the down arrow button and the Sony TV will reset itself to factory settings. Once the television performs a scan on itself your problem should be gone. Good Luck Ed Pinero
This shouldn't happen. When the standby light is flashing there is a problem with the television and it needs servicing. It could be the main board, the power supply, or both. This is a costly repair when a television is not in warranty. Now there are times when a television has to be turned on from the power button located on the top or side of it when first being unboxed. At a time like that the remote control will not work to power on the television. I don't believe that is the problem you are experiencing.
The troubleshooting for this is to unplug the television overnight and when you plug it back in the next day wait for the standby light to start flashing. Hold down the power button on the television set itself. Wait and see if the standby light stops flashing and turns red (or a different color). Let go of the power button. Press it once more and release it once more. The television should come on.
Even if the above works you don't want to risk something really being wrong with the television and a costly repair being needed after the warranty expires.
Hi, If standby red light is solid then press power or channel button on remote of tv itself to turn it ON. And if red light is blinking/ flashing then it is an indication that tv got problem and tech visit is needed to sort out problem. Thanks.
Please follow the steps mentioned below to troubleshoot the issue: If the TV standby light is blinking for five times then you may perform the steps given below: (i) Turn off the TV then disconnect all the cables from the TV. (ii) Next, reconnect all the cables after two minutes. (iii) Please make sure that the power cable from the TV is directly connected to a functional wall outlet. (iv) Next, you may try resetting the TV to the original factory settings.
Please follow the steps that are mentioned below to reset the TV to the original factory settings:
(a) Turn ON the TV. (b) Press and hold the Power button on the Remote Control supplied with the TV, then press the Power button on the TV front panel. (c) Release the Power button. The TV will turn itself off, then back ON again. (d) Next, release the Reset button on the Remote control.
If the standby light still blinks then the issue may be with the projection lamp in the TV and requires replacement.
