I'm assuming the laptop is out of warrantee.
It sounds like the power adapter jack is broken. To replace this you have to take the laptop apart down to the motherboard, unsolder the jack, solder on the replacement and reassemble the laptop. This is not something a novice should attempt.
Check with your laptop repair shops. The replacement/repair should be under $100.

Sony vaio pcg-2j3l desktop will not power on

Just to clarify, the box (power brick) in the middle of the power cord is the power supply. With that said, there is a light on the box (may be green, blue, or some other color). Does it come on when you plug it in (assuming that the wall outlet or serge protector has power)? If it doesn't then the power cable needs to be replaced. If it does then there is something wrong with either the cable going between the box and the computer, the power connector, or the connector on the computer.

The ac power plug was broken loose on my sony vaio vgn fw140e and finally the laptop failed to power up. I'm pretty sure the power adapter came loose from the mother board . I just don't know how to fix...

1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

My sony pcg-k23 screen will not turn on. the computer is running but no screen

the lcd may be broken or the connection cable may be loose. in both cases, if you're still on warranty coverage, ask for specialized help. if you're out of warranty coverage, then try to troubleshoot the problem with your user's manual. if you can't solve the problem this way, try opening your computer and check if the cable is loosen. be careful to remove the battery first and unplug the power cord before opening the laptop's chassis.

Power socket is loose

dc jack socket for Sony VAIO VGN-FW is very easy to loose, I think you can replace the cabled dc jack, no solder work, plug in and work, see this reference page: http://www.lapdiy.com/sony-vaio-vgnfw-series-power-jack-port-connector-dc-in-cable-p-2647.html
the above item is with ground cable, it is known that sony FW uses both harnesses with or without ground cable, you can cut the ground cable directly if your laptop does not use it, or order from this page for the one without ground cable: http://www.lapdiy.com/sony-vaio-07300012492a-power-jack-port-connector-dc-in-cable-p-2782.html
hope this can help you

I have a sony vaio pcg. it powers on and does nothing else. the 2 little cooling fans come on but the hard drive doesn't run and screen won't come on. can anyone help me out. thanks

Hello,

Its possible that you already have a bad hard drive. It may have crashed. Your system will not boot without the hard drive running. The computer will keep on trying to look for the Hard drive that's probably why it looks like its doing nothing. Bring your machine to sony and have them fix it. If you know how to open up your Vaio, try to check the Hard drive connection and see it its loose, if its not loose. its time to replace the hard drive.

I hope this helps. Thanks and have a nice day.

Internal fuse need replacing

Sorry, but i don't think there is fuse on motherboard.
More likely its a loose DC socket cable to motherboard or faulty AC adapter.
If Dc - ok, AC - ok, then its a faulty motherboard.

Won't stay on

IS THIS WITH BOTH AC CORD AND BATTERY
you probably need a power supply
before you run out and buy one start and press f8 then start in safemode see if the same thing happens
also make sure your AC adapter is connecting with internal connection the internal connection can become loose or bent from constant plugging and unplugging

Hi z14jc.
Clink on the link below

Download the VAIO dissasembly.doc
Its not for your model but should be close enough.
I am presuming that your laptop is OUT of warranty and you have a good idea of what you are doing?
Ensure you have an ESD strap on when touching components.
Good luck.
Let me know if this was useful.
