Pieces of broken glass fell through openings in bottom of dishwsh

Kitchenaid Dishwasher KUDS02FRSS2 - I broke a glass in the dishwasher, and some of the glass pieces fell through the small openings in the unit located in the bottom center of the dishwasher (I believe that that's where the water drains through). It appears that if I were to remove the lower wash arm and whaterver is under it, I might be able to get the glass out. The small knob on top of the wash arm seems to be very solidly attached. I am afraid to apply too much pressur and break it. Please help, how can I remove the broken glass.

SOURCE: Upper spray arm is not turning

Hi Chris,

It sounds to me like a restriction in the pump. I put together some information here on cleaning it out. If you try these please give me some feedback as to if they help or not.

Thanks!

SOURCE: kitchenaid dishwasher leaves grit on glasses

mas, did you ever get this resolved? our KUDI01TJ has been doing the same thing for a year now, and the kitchenaid people hadn't heard of it... they told me ours was at the average lifespan, so it may just be dying, but I haven't wanted to call someone out unless it's fixable.

SOURCE: Hello, Our kitchenaid DW has stopped working. Non

It is nice to see a problem described with such a depth of observations. It helps in closing on to the possible causes of the problem.

For the moment let us make sure there are no remnants of the glass left in the dishwasher. This dishwasher is equipped with a chopper that works in the wash cycle to grind any waste and drain it out. This feature prevents the rubbish to go round and round the dishwasher during wash cycle.

I am suspecting at this stage the glass pieces have got stuck in the chopper and thereby siezed the wash motor. However, to get to the chopper you will need to rub some elbow grease and disengage the wash assembly at the base of the dishwasher. First have a look at the assembly diagram and then decide if you want to do it yourself or call the technician.
The chopper is item 6.

Please post a comment to confirm which way you want to go.

Why is my Kitchenaid dishwasher model KUDS01DJSS0 pump making loud humming noise? Pump motor suddenly began making loud humming noise when running. (not so bad when draining).

Some dishwashers have a soft food disposal inside. If something is hung up, it will grind or hum for a long time. If this is the problem, it will eventually go away.

Door spring broken

You should have one at the bottom corners of the door. Pull the dishwasher out about a foot and you should be able to see the broken spring and the hooks it connects to. Screws under the counter top hold the dishwasher in.

A plate broke in the dishwasher and glass fell into the food grinder area. I need to remove the glass. I have one of the KUD10 models of dishwashers.

In order to remove the glass you will need to lift the top of the grinder off. To do that is a rather complicated procedure however and I would recomend that you have a repair service come to remove the glass. Attempting to do it yourself could damage the inside of the grinder and possibly make your dishwasher not work at all.

Kitchenaid Superba Dishwasher clogged or jammed with broken glass

You will probably have to get at it from the bottom, possibly the back of the washer. Here is a link to your repair manual.

Back in the day, when I worked on K Dishwashers, the drain valve was the problem typically.
It would get a piece of glass, from broken glass or other item, or a toothpick, whatever stuck in the drain valve. It would not completely close. During the wash cycle, water would be trickling down the drain and by the time the soap dispenser opens, the water would be gone or nearly gone.
Check this. When you hear the dispenser snap open, stop the dishwasher and open the door.
If you have little or no water, you are losing the water during the wash cycle.

Let me know.

Broken Glass

Sorry if you've already tried this (and it doesn't really answer your question)... Have you tried taking a damp paper towel to the bottom of your dishwasher - that trick picks up the really tiny glass particules - or a wet/dry vac?
