Kitchenaid Dishwasher KUDS02FRSS2 - I broke a glass in the dishwasher, and some of the glass pieces fell through the small openings in the unit located in the bottom center of the dishwasher (I believe that that's where the water drains through). It appears that if I were to remove the lower wash arm and whaterver is under it, I might be able to get the glass out. The small knob on top of the wash arm seems to be very solidly attached. I am afraid to apply too much pressur and break it. Please help, how can I remove the broken glass.

Hi Chris,
It sounds to me like a restriction in the pump. I put together some information here on cleaning it out. If you try these please give me some feedback as to if they help or not.
Thanks!

mas, did you ever get this resolved? our KUDI01TJ has been doing the same thing for a year now, and the kitchenaid people hadn't heard of it... they told me ours was at the average lifespan, so it may just be dying, but I haven't wanted to call someone out unless it's fixable.

It is nice to see a problem described with such a depth of observations. It helps in closing on to the possible causes of the problem.
For the moment let us make sure there are no remnants of the glass left in the dishwasher. This dishwasher is equipped with a chopper that works in the wash cycle to grind any waste and drain it out. This feature prevents the rubbish to go round and round the dishwasher during wash cycle.
I am suspecting at this stage the glass pieces have got stuck in the chopper and thereby siezed the wash motor. However, to get to the chopper you will need to rub some elbow grease and disengage the wash assembly at the base of the dishwasher. First have a look at the assembly diagram and then decide if you want to do it yourself or call the technician.
The chopper is item 6.
Please post a comment to confirm which way you want to go.
