Check near where the paper comes out for a little plastic flag that can move up or down. If it's the model I'm thinking of that has that, It's possible it has stuck up, making the printer think the paper bin is full. If so, you should be able to just flick it down and it'll be alright.

If not, well, maybe someone else can help you out, this is just the first thing I thought of.

How to output bin empty ?

  1. The output bin may be full. Empty the output bin. Printing resumes automatically.
  2. Take a close look at the flaps hanging out the exit of the printer. They should move up and down freely. If one of them is stuck up, broken or dislodged, then a bin full error is displayed.
  3. Open rear exit tray and power on the printer. If the printer comes to a Ready state, close rear tray and try printing.
  4. Clean the paper path below the toner area and exit assembly at the back of the printer. Ensure there is no pieces of paper stuck in the paper path of the printer.

Standard bin full

Hello,

This error is cause by either having your output paper bin full of paper or the flag sensor out of alignment where the paper comes out of the top. Look at the top f the printer where the paper comes out and you should see a black plastic sensor flag, it should move freely. If it is stuck remove the top cover above it and try to free it so it can move. Below is a picture of the printer with the output sensor flag circled.

Standard out put full remove all paper from bin

If you have removed the paper from the output bin at the top of the printer and the message won't go away, either the sensor is bad or the actuator is stuck in the up position.

Look at the top of the printer at the rear right of the fuser. There should be what looks like a plastic rod(usually black in color) with plastic "flags". It should be free, moving up and down with your finger. It is used to guide the paper into the bin. What usually happens is the rod gets jammed in the up position telling the printer that the output bin is full. If your printer has this problem, just push the flags down to free it. This should fix your problem. Sorry but I don't have a 5550 in front of me, so this is from memory.
Good Luck

That means that the output tray is filled to capacity, or one of the students broke the "bin full flag" at the top of the printer.

Std bin full

The Standard Bin Full message is refering to the main output tray for the printer. If you have nothing mounted to the top of the printer, then the standard tray is where the paper is exiting.

What the message is telling you the bin is full and it is not, most likley the failure is that the sensor (a piece of wire is jammed in the up position. Just release the wire and let it hang down. That should clear your message and let you start printing again.
