Hi there, when I record a video with my f50, the sound is not recorded with it. There is no sound either when I review the video on the camera, or after I upload it to my PC. What could be the problem?

Welcome to Fixya. All digitals camera has a features of video recordings, however they have the difference when you try to review or watch it thru the camera itself. I have the same camera as yours, First I thought that my camera was damaged because I don't hear any sounds at all when I'm trying to view/watch my brother's gradustion day. When I try to transfer all the data on my computer, thinking that trying to re-format the camera will be the resolution for my issue to hear the sounds of my recordings. While listening to a music while reviewing my pictures on the computer, I heard a different sounds, then when I try to pause my music, I'm happy to hear that its my brother's video on his graduation.
The answer to your question if your going to upload your video on your computer, YES! you can hear the sounds of your recordings thru your computer.
Unfortunately, there is no external mic connection on this camcorder. The a/v jack is for viewing movies on a tv or transferring to a video recorder, etc.
I found this out through some reviews on the camera at this site: http://alatest.com/reviews/camcorder-reviews/jvc-gr-d720-mini-dv-digital-camcorder/po3-36078831,21/
Sorry to have to relay the bad news. The biggest complaint about this recorder seems to be bad sound quality, but there is nothing that can be done about it, unfortunately. Sorry, wish I had better news for you.
please note that the C913 hasn't got any speakers. When you use the video record section of your camera, the cam record the sound but when you want to hear the sound you have to transfer the video to your pc. When you use the camera review mode you won't hear any sound because the camera has no speakers ;-)
1)The stereo tape is played back with HIFI sound set to 2 in the menu settings.
Set it to STEREO (see page 79)
2) The volume is turned to a minumum.
Press Volume + (see page 27)
3) Audio Mix is set to ST2 side in the menu settings.
Adjust the audio mix (see page 79)
If one of those 3 options doesn't work, try using an 8mm tape head cleaner.
Some VCR have the ability to record sound from another source. Check the sound settings and record settings to make certain it has not been switched to another sound setting.
