Check power adapter’s DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Lenovo laptop(8932) will go into a sleep like mode (you can still see the screen, very dim) when plugged into ac adaptor. Doesn't do it with battery power. Changed system board, power adaptor - no...

Good Day Psmith!

It looks like the AC adaptor is not making the right supply voltage needed for your laptop.

If you have a multi tester, you can test your ac adaptor to see if it has stable 20V voltage output supply needed for the laptop to make it work.

Set your tester to DC range. Plug the ac adaptor to your wall socket. Hold the other end of the ac adaptor (the one you connect to your laptop. Insert the red (positive) lead into the center of the adapter pin, then touch the black (negative) lead to the outside metal part of the pin.

Read the display in your tester. If the adapter is working properly, the meter should read between 19 to 20 volts of the rating. If the adapter is faulty, the meter will read below 18volts.

If that would be the case, I'm afraid you will need to replace your ac adaptor.

You can purchase online a replacement ac adaptor for lenovo 8932.

hi,

You said laptop is working fine if just using the battery, that means that there is nothing wrong with the battery itself. Can yu please try to connect the laptop directly to the power outlet without using the battery just for the mean time, remove the battery and connect the AC adapter directly to the power outlet then power on the laptop,if nothing happens, that means that there is something wrong with the AC adapter itself or the power port on the laptop.
Hope this will help...

Battery power not working

Hi,

Try Removing your battery first then unplug the Power adaptor from the system, then press and hold down the power button to do a power drain on your systems motherboard.

return your battery then try powering the system using battery only.
if the system still wont power up using battery, plug in your adaptor go in windows, go to add remove programs or programs and features depending on what windows your system has, once in either one of the two look for energy management uninstall it from your system then restart the computer one last time try powering using your battery only.
If still this does not work powering the system using battery try updating drivers for your motherboard go to the lenovo website consumersupport.lenovo.com for the chipset drivers download

if still nothing has changed call lenovo probably something is wrong with your motherboard or battery you may need to send the system back to lenovo for further checking.

My lenovo 3000 G410 when ia tr to start it nothing happens???? help

Hi,

Is there power when you turn the system On?

In your case it is very difficult to find out which is causing the system not to power, this can be multiple devices on your ssytem.

trying to eliminate one device after another try following the steps below:

>remove the Battery from the system, unhook the adaptor as well then Press and Hold down the power button for 7-10 seconds to drain any power on your motherboard.

>after power draining the system connect the adaptor to your laptop, do not insert the battery yet, Power the system without the battery, if the system turns on leave it turned on for about a minute then shut it down normally.

>insert the battery to the laptop turn the system on if this turns on without any error then your concern is probably ok and fixed.

>but if the system still does not power up having the battery connected to the machine a device on your system can or maybe damaged either the Battery or the Motherboard having an issue with the battery conencted to the machine...

if your system is in warranty call Lenovo and have it sent to teh service center for proper checking and repairs.

Does a nintendo ds lite need the battery in to power up on just the adaptor?

The adaptor is only to recharge the battery. If you only use the adaptor without battery, I'm sure nothing will happen. You need the battery in or you can't play. But you can play with both the battery and adaptor in at the same time. It makes your battery recharge + you can play meantime.

The AC pwoer keeps on and off (most time off) all the time, however, it still can recharge the battery

This is not a good sign!
If all physical connection seems fine, it could mean something is wrong on the power modules of the motherboard! Please try another power adapter to see if it's the power adaptor's fault. If not, get it into lenovo service centre for check-up, as this could damage your laptop motherboard's power modules permanently!
This happened exactly what I had on my good old ASUS laptop, I ended up replace the motherboard. Pay little money to get it serviced before you have to replace the whole motherboard!

Try to remove the battery and connect your laptop to the adaptor. Swith on. If nothing chages, then there is good chance that you have a motherboard related problem.

Acer Travelmate 2200 laptop

Try taking the laptop battery out. You can remove the laptop battery by turning it over, you'll usually see some sliders at the bottom, slide them to the unlock position and you should be able to wedge your battery out. The battery usually comes in a very tall and thin rectangular shape. Once the battery is out, plug the laptop in through the mains power - this may solve your problem, if it does, you'll need a new battery if you wish to use it on the move. If it does not solve your problem, it is either a faulty power adaptor, or a faulty power supply on the motherboard of your laptop. A faulty power adaptor or battery is the best case scenario, as it's the cheapest to buy a replacement (although it's still expensive - $120 worth in the UK roughly). A faulty power supply on the mainboard generally means you'll need a replacement mainboard which is totally uneconomical, especially with the labour cost to fit it professionally. If the battery and power adaptor is not faulty, you might as well scrap it and get a new laptop. Good luck Tina!
