Computer frequently shuts down unexpectedly/ fans very noisy

A month after i bought the hp pavilion elite m9360f, my computer made loud whirring/grinding noises with the fan. This kept going on until a year and a half later. This week, my computer has been shutting off randomly without warning. Sometimes, the fan starts spinning so loud i thinks its going to fly off, then it shuts down. I never get any error messages afterwards. When it does shut down, i have to wait about an hour or two before i can turn it on again because it wont turn on again with the power button. I think it might be a problem with the power supply? I really need to fix this problem, and any input would be great!

You might have a cooling problem due to a fan malfunction. It is not clear whether it's the power supply fan or the CPU fan; in the latter case you might also have a thermal coupling problem. The symptoms you describe certainly seem to point to such.

My advice would be to replace the fan (or the whole power supply; you might also want to purchase a "Silent Power" unit for quieter computing). If it's the CPU fan and you are comfortable with, or know anyone comfortable with a bit of PC servicing, you might want to also unmount the heat sink from the CPU and replace the thermal paste between CPU and heatsink. Clean the heat dissipator (the black metal grille over the heatsink) with hot water and a bit of soap and dry thoroughly, or wipe it energically with a dust brush, before mounting the new fan on it.

You are right you need to replace the power supply, It if fairly easy to do.

  1. Unplug the computer, press and hold down the power button.
  2. open the cover and unscrew the power
  3. disconnect all the cables and take the power supply with you when you get a new one.

Asus u52 shut down unexpectedly

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

How to fix unexpected shutdown due to Blue screen problem of Pavilion HDX9494NR

See if the Check disk utility will solve your problem. To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

the fans is bad.
what else needs to be asked about that.
sure how to change it (
or who can?

ill pretend you said howto
the one seen here is the Phenom x4 , 9850 CPU

so is best to buy a new, fan heat sink assembly
id dont teach fan, swaps, its too technical... can do but wont.

I bought HP Pavilion dv5 6 months ago and fan not working

Your cooling fan sounds to have went out, causing it to overheat and shut down.It also could be something in the fan stopping it from turning.Try cleaning it or blowing it out with it off.But it mostly sounds to have went out.

Buzzing from hp desktop pavilian elite m9340f

The problem most likely resides within your fan. Try to clean out the inside of the computer with compressed air. Also check to make sure there arnt any obstructions touching the fan such as wires. This should fix your problem.

Using the digital out on my HP Pavilion m9360f Elite Desktop PC

That's not an RCA jack that is for digital cable to connect to a surround sound system. What you want to do is connect an rca jack to the lime green out jack for a 2 speaker stereo system.
