The resistance on my Precor elliptical 5.17 will not increase. All other functions on the machine work. Any ideas?

We are FIXYA dot com. We are not Precor and we certainly don't take credit card numbers. By 'charging bat', you mean battery for the display. The battery is mentioned 67 times in the manual. Press CTRL+F and type in 'battery'. Page 39 and 40, looks to be what you need.

Replacement Parts for Fitness Exercise Equipment at SPORTSMITH This could be a simple solution. It may be that the overlay/keypad is no longer functioning properly.

Please have your serial number available.

If the display stays at 1, then the UP button may be at fault, in which case you would need a new keypad.

This is commonly the result of a bad overlay/keypad.

This could be caused by either a bad lower electronic board or the brake/generator. 1. Sounds like you need a new keypad if some buttons do not work. 2. If those buttons do not work either, it sounds like you need a new keypad, possibly the upper board. Make sure the keypad is plugged into the upper board and the connection is not corroded. 3. Older 546s used an electromagnet to produce resistance, newer 546s use a generator and resistor to produce resistance. I have never seen a 546 that used a motor that moves back and forth to produce resistance. Some residential crosstrainers use a motor like you describe.

their maybe a loose connection between the upper display and function controls I would pull apart the upper display and check the connectors between the two boards

try lubeing it up a bit on the spindle in the front and back
