Hi, my ps3 froze up on my the other day. now

Hi, my ps3 froze up on me the other day. now everything about the system works fine Except when i put in a ps3 game dvd or blu ray nothing happens doesnt read anything. iget up close and doesnt even sound like disc is spinning. any help besides sending it back in to sony and paying more than a new 120g to get it fixed would be appreciated. 80g model is what i have.

I have already tried #3 from the menu to fix corrupt data. that did not work. would the lens cause the disc not to spin at all or just not to read. because mine doesnt do anything at all when disc is inserted. usually you can hear fan and disc spin but now just quiet

Good chance it's not the lens. Could be corrupt data issue. Try a reformat of HDD and run #3 from service menu to fix corrupt data. Since I had this problem my system freezes on every game. Still looking for answers but a new lens made no difference for me.

A reformat and file restore fixes the problem of not reading the disk, until the game freezes up the system and won't see disk again until I repeat the process. Tried this with two different lenses so how can it be faulty hardware?

yes the lens sends a signal to spin the disc when it is inserted i replaced two of mine already one was on a 40 gig and the other was a slim

Interesting problem. I recommend trying a reset of the video card. It's pretty easy, Sony has the instructions here.

Except for the scrambling and freezing, it sounds like an issue I had recently with my own system. Give this a try and please leave a comment on weather it worked or not.

PS3 was working fine for a couple of minutes and froze. I restarted my ps3 and it froze almost instantly. So I restarted it again and now my video doesnt even work and none of my controllers will connect

Is your ps3 overheated? Unplug everything and let it cool for a minute or so.

Hi there,
Most PS3 systems end up doing this due to an over heating of the laser lens. Let me explain: The laser lens in the PS3 is made to read mainly Blue Ray games. The movies need to be read faster than the game discs which causes it to work harder thus the problem arising.
Sometimes, your lucky enough for this to only be a dirty lens problem due to rental movies which are most of the time, if not always, dirty.
Have you tried a lens cleaner kit?
This is the CD-ROM with a small brush on it to clean your laser lens head.
This problem has happened to me in the past and this solved the problem.
It is a common problem for any lens reading console.

im not a huge expert on ps3's but it sounds to me like the operating system within the PS3 has gone corrupt. no idea on how to fix this one though im afraid id suggest getting in contact with sony
