Saving Data After A Crashed Windows On...
SOURCE: Windows startup error
If it is Windows Vista and it happened after a Windows Update, you might have the problem as described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB946084. No matter what you do (any F8 option such as Safe Mode or Command Prompt, or trying to boot from a Vista CD) you end up at the Blue Screen of Death.
Something is corrupted on the hard drive (not a hardware error) and now Vista has a fit if it sees the drive, even as a secondary or external drive (it goes to the BSOD with STOP: 0x0000C1F5).
The only solution so far is to erase the Vista partition and re-install Vista. You can take the drive and connect it to another computer running XP (using an external drive enclosure for example) to get the data off of it. Then do a format on the partition. Now reinstall the drive and you can load Vista. If you have no Vista disk but there was a Recovery Partition, this will now work.

Sounds like it's time to run chkdsk on your system, at least that may repair the volume. See links about this stop error code here and here. For instructions to run chkdsk, see here, here, here and here or here. If you never installed the recovery console, you'll need your xp disks to run chkdsk. Here are the instructions to run the recovery console.
Good luck!
