My computer will inexplicably lose internet connectivity (the wireless signal). 15 minutes later or so, it will recognize the signal again, while im not connected, my signal does not appear as an option while other secure networks do?
modem and router connections appear to be working and hooked up correctly. Especially considering the signal re-appears on its own.
I'm thinking its a setting on my computer that is causing the problem, i could be way off though.

I think the problem must be with the router. When it drops the connection, you can see other networks but not yours. that means at that time the wireless signal on your router must not be broadcasted. WRT160N router has issues with the firmware. Youcan try to upgrade the firmware of the router. firmware is the software of the router. You may have an IP address conflict with another machine. why don't you just plug the router into the computer to see if that solves your problem first. If it doesn't. you should contact your internet carrier. You can also try this: turn everything off, and unplug EVERYTHING for a few minutes. Plug the AC adapters back into the devices FIRST, then into the wall. this will often drain power and solve IP issues.
I too am a gamer, it is not only important to have your connection be reliable and consistant speeds, but to have the game set up properly, full upload and download speeds set as default for in game. I would recommend getting a cat5 cable from the store and getting rid of wireless for the gaming computer. Try visiting some of the speedtest sites, depending on where you live you should try www.chi.speakeasy.net just click on the location closest to you, try it a few times, see if the speeds are what your paying for. check your bill or call your internet service provider and ask them what your paying for, if your not getting what you paid for most of the time you can negotiate the amount you pay for the next few months. most of the time free. As well as set up a tech to visit your house to make the signal frequency for the desired speeds.
