IBM Wheelwriter 5. It was typing light so I changed ribbon. Then piece won't fly front to hit the key and won't type. Did I hit something that moved a mechanism or something? The letter wheel spins but the "thing" doesn't fly front to hit it.

Where is the TYPEWRITER SOLENOID on a IBM Wheelwriter 6 Series II

The "print" solenoid is what hits the hammer that hits the printwheel and makes it type on your paper. If you remove the ribbon and look straight down in the carrier on the left side you can see the solenoid. It is below the blue piece of rubber that sits on the hammer arm. The end of the solenoid is supposed to have a cap on the end of the plunger. This cap gives a specific clearance so when it is activated, it hits the hammer arm to propel it forward to strike the printwheel.

We have a wheelwriter 6. We changed the ribbon and now it won't type. I'm guessing we hit something that changed it to "stencil"?

There is no stencil on a WW. Put a Multipart form in it , if it types on the carbons thr ribbon isn,t feeding of lifting, if it dosen't type on the carbons the plastic print solenoid cap is probably broken. We sell them for 20.oo includes shipping and instructions.

Ribbon won't advance

First try a little WD40 on the ribbon motor bearings top and bottom, ckeck the plug that is plugged into it. The motor is under the R. corner of the ribbon deck towards the front of T/W.

IBM Wheelwriter 30 series II - prints only half a letter

If it types only the top half yhe platen is probably not all the way in. Make sure the 2 black latches are lined up with the side frames then press down firmly on both sides of the platen.
