I want to make a video but I'm not sure what buttons to press or how to do it.

Hi,

For capturing movies in the Camera, turn the mode dial of the Camera to the Movie position. Click here to open the handbook Manual of the Camera. Refer to page # 18 of the manual for the information on selecting the movie mode for shooting movies using the mode dial.

Thanks for using FixYa.

When using my Nikon CP 5400 - the videos are not longer clear and are grainy - is this a card issue or the camera? Also the camera is slow in capturing the current shot I am taking and I now miss the moments I am trying to take.

This sounds like an issue due to low light. The card will not cause the video or pictures to be grainy, but high ISO settings (used to compensate for low light) will. In low light, auto-focus has a hard time and usually a camera won't take a shot unless focus lock occurs.

Assuming you were shooting in a low-light situation, the solution is to add more lighting to the scene.
Note that the flash on your camera is only good for a distance of about 10 feet.

No sound when recording video

Did you set up the camera to capture sound? This Camera has a Functions menu which is deep as the ocean, and standard movie capture does not also pick up sound. Additionally, if playing the movie back over an external device, use the A/V cable not USB, and get a High Capacity SD/MMC memory card if you want more than a few moments of video with sound. I would finally recommend an audio input device, as even when in Movie sound capture mode, the volume is never very loud.
Read the advanced manual completely.

Just a video of 8.03 minutes captured in my Power Shot A550 Digital Camera shows 867 MB size

A 1.3 hour movie is recorded on a DVD, not a CD. DVDs can hold a minimum of 4.7 GB, or nearly seven times the capacity of CDs. Your 867 MB file of 8.03 minutes indicates that you were recording at about 1,800 KB/sec, or the highest quality recording level. (See specifications here.) If you're willing to record your video in a smaller size, you can get much more recording on a CD.
