Gateway M-7315U "Major Fan Error" will not boot up, This is what it says on black screen when I turn on the laptop "Major Fan Error" and the fan is not spinning at all, How do I fix this problem? What is the model number of the fan I need to replace and where to buy the laptop fan?

My fan for the gateway M7315u has a different problem altogether. Under normal operations the Fan just suddenly spins uncontrollably and makes a high pitched noise. I have opened the casing and cleaned the whole fan and surroundings for dust and other foreign objects. It is clean. I unplug the fan from the circuitry every now and then for a brief moment and when I plug it back in it just jumps back up to 100 miles a minute. You got any ideas? Someone suggested the possibility of a bad bearing. If so I want to get the fan replaced or upgraded if at all possible.

My Gateway m-7315u keyboard is not working correctly

Has there been a spill? May be a hardware failure? Try re-installing driver at: http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?partNumber=M-7315u Are ALL the Windows and Gateway Updates installed? May be a "fix" in the Gateway drivers list.

I have to hit the f1 key to continue the bootup process. Then I get a defective fan error message, but the fan is running, becasue I can hear it.

there may be more than one fan-- there also is a setting in the BIOS to disable the fan warning if you are SURE that the fan it is monitoring is working correctly.
