Onkyo TX-SR706 Setup Display Problem

My Onkyo TX-SR706 is connected to my Panasonic Plasma TV via HDMI. Everything works fine with the exception of the receiver's setup screen (OSD). I can access the screen without issue for a period of 20-30 seconds before the picture begins to ''scramble'' or ''distort''. This is particularly annoying while in the middle of making adjustments as I have to back out of the setup mode and then return and try to complete my adjustments before the screen again scrambles. No problems with normal viewing of television programs or DVDs. Any thoughts?

Thank You

For adjustments to receiver you can always run a component or composite cable to your plasma tv. After adjustments are made just return to HDMI input.

Onkyo tx-sr604 help

You said you tried hooking the HDMI up directly from the TV to each component, and that worked. How is it usually hooked up - through some kind of switch? I'm not completely understanding your setup here.

I cannot get video signal from my Samsung p1590 Blu Ray player via HDMI to pass through my Onkyo TX-SR606 AV Receiver. I get video if I connect Blu Ray player directly to TV, and have tried all HDMI ports...

I think this one is for the Onkyo wizards:

I would write them via email here:

However I did find this 2 page hookup manual with nice notes at link listed below that may help you solve the mystery:

(seems you may have to assign the digital input)

http://filedepot.onkyousa.com/Files/QuickHookup/TX-SR606_QSS_En_A.pdf?CFID=918117&CFTOKEN=40624545&jsessionid=f0306ea8a0d68bb60a49102e3e5510576756

Assigning the Digital Input
If there’s no sound, you’ll need to assign the digital inputs as
necessary using the setup menus on the TX-SR606’s display.
If you connect your DVD player to the AV receiver’s COAXIAL 1
DIGITAL IN, and your cable/satellite receiver to the COAXIAL 2
DIGITAL IN, as shown, it’s not necessary to assign the digital input.
The onscreen setup menus appear only on a TV that is
connected to the HDMI OUT. If your TV is connected to the composite video or S-Video MONITOR OUT, or the
COMPONENT VIDEO OUT, use the TX-SR606’s display when changing settings.

1080P video via HDMI generates awful interference

Your Plasma's native resolution is 720P. Go into the Blu Ray's output setup. you can choose 480p 480i 720p 1080i and 1080p. Set it for 720p that should clear up the issue. You may have to run Component directly to the TV since you only have 1 HDMI input and you can run Digital coax or optical to your AV receiver for audio. On a 50" TV the difference between 720p and 1080p using "GOOD" cables cannot be seen by the human eye. Above 50, yes it is noticeable.
Hope this helps.

Don't want to use receiver to turn Plasma on via Verizon DVR

You can not have a signal from cable/satelite TV when reciever is OFF.The only way is reconnect by using defferent setup configuration to illiminate the receiver. In that case you well see just regular Tv program but you should connect antena to your TV.

HDMI connection with Panasonic DMP-BD35K Blu-Ray Disc Player

Try hooking the Panasonic up straight to the tv without going through the receiver. If it displays a picture its obviously not the blu-ray player. May also be a problem with the HDMI cable itself. Hope this helps.
