Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Looking for the longest battery life laptop ?

We’ve yet to see a Windows laptop with battery life longer than 5~7 hours, unless we add an extended battery to the system. But when hpand dell launched its new series of laptops last week, one big push wasfor longer battery life.

When you purchase your notebook, charge the battery to 100 percent, discharge it completely, and then fully charge it to 100 percent againto help the battery remember exactly how much electrical charge it canhold. From then on, you’ll never need to completely discharge the laptop battery again, but always make sure when charging it that you let it reach 100 percent. DeHoop told us to “remember to plug in the laptop AC adapter(or dock/port replicator) whenever you get a chance. Most notebookswill recharge quickly.” Salinas had another tip for your batteries:“Keep them cool. Exposure to high temperatures can be a battery’s worstenemy,” he said

Hope the list can give you some help when you purchase a laptop or battery:

Here are my recommendations for this issue:

1. Reseat the battery.
2. Remove All External Components
3. Check the battery connectors on the battery and the system. Examine the connector on the battery and the system. Make sure that there is no physical damage and that it is clear of debris.
4. Remove All External Components
5. Try a known-good battery in the system, if available.

dell c640 laptop battery

Normally that is the best way. Turn your system on and let it run down without the power cord. It will shutdown automatically when the battery is really low. Then with the system off, connect the power cord and let the battery recharge. I'd let give it at least a 10 hour charge if not overnight. Should be OK by then. When you power back up the next day, look for the "icon" that lets you check power levels. That little program should tell you loads of information that you might find useful. Look for "hints' that will extend your battery life too. The newer batteries today no longer have that "Memory Issue" they once had. Just remember re-chargeable batteries do wear out over time. You can only recharge them so many times but that's now in the hundreds with the newer ones or around 2-3 years depending on usage.
