The hard drive data cable or power cable may have come loose. But if there isn't some very obvious simple problem of a loose connection, I'd say take it back to the store for an exchange. If you really just bought it there should be no problem with an exchange, You'll probably be more comfortable with a replacement.

Brand new today? Stop fooling with it now! Take it back and make them give you a machine that works. If you fool with it any more, your warranty will be of no value.

Emachine wants to: " reboot an select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device an press any key " . I dont have a boot media or know what is the proper doot device....

The proper boot device is your hard drive, when you boot hit F2 while it is booting up and it will bring up the screen to change boot devices select the hard drive and save the settings and this should work if it dont it is possible that your hard drive has bit the dust.

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media

its basically telling you that your master hard drive with O/S installation cannot be found in the booting system...Check if your master HD is not corrupted and see if your O/S still exist or maybe wiped out..

When I turn it on it says Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.

Please verify if you don;t have a floppy disk in your drive. If you don't then you have to verify in BIOS if is selected proper boot device - HDD.
If everything is set then you have problem with your hard disk, must check and install new operating system.

I took my friend to wally world today and he bought a new Emachine got it home and hooked it all up... and all it says is choose a boot drive. Brand spanking new lol. Called them and in very very broken...

If it gives you options to choose from such as Windows XP, NT 2000, etc. then select one and press enter. If not, try reinstalling Windows using the restore disc that came with the computer. Make sure to set your CD drive to boot first from your BIOS setup. To enter the BIOS press F2 at startup. Then select the CD drive and set it to first in the Boot Order list. Restart your computer with the Windows disc in the CD drive and follow the on screen instructions.

Hope this helps, good luck. Don't forget to vote. Thanks :)

1, to open your cd drive manually, get a tooth pick, look closely onto your cd drive i mean where the cd comes out from when ejected, you will see a very tiny hole put the tooth pick inside the hole push it in a bit hard then bring out if it does not try a tinier object it will come out.

2, if the system was on when u disconnected the belt it might have burnt the hdd or has caused error on the hdd, off the computer and reboot if no solution, reformatt the system if it does not work, get a new hdd. thanks
