How do I set the freezer temperature below -20?

Most Domestic freezers are set to run at -18 degrees. If you turn the freezer coldness knob to maximum or set the digital controller to maximum, that will be as cold as the unit gets.

Refrigerator freezes

Sounds like might be the Temperature Control Thermostat or some sensor in the circuitry telling the compressor and cooling parts to keep running because it thinks it isn't cold enough. There is probably a circulation fan to blow the cold air through the damper and it may not shut off either, conveying too much cold thermal conduction through ducting and all frig parts, regardless of damper being closed or open. With the temperature set on low, do the compressor and fans ever shut off once cold temperatures are attained? Freezer should be 0 or lower, frig 35-40.

Whirlpool frig. Freezer warm, frig seems ok.

Since the temperature is already 40°, the cold control is satisfied and will not run. Thus the freezer will warm up to 40°.

My wife and I bought a Kenmore chest freezer (14.8 cubic foot) about 6 weeks ago. It is made by Frigidaire for Sears, and the model number is #253.165.42105, serial # WB94341279. It has been working OK. ...

This is well with in factory specifications. Hot air rises and cold air drops. Because a chest freezer does not have a fan to circulate the air it is normal for the basket to be warmer than the bottom of the freezer. The bottom of the freezer is used for food you want to keep for a longer period of time. What you store in the basket is food you will freeze for a short period of time. Ice cream should not be kept in the basket. As you fill your freezer with food you will find that the temperature will equal out because the frozen food will take up the place of the frozen air which will give you a more stable freezer temperature.
Try your test when you have it full of food.

I have a whirlpool frig for about 5 years now and as of the last week the freezer is icing up on the left side where the door opens and the refrigerator part doesn't get that cold even with the controls...

Check the following: is the defrost timer cycling. If it is is the heater working, located behind the freezer back panel, defrosts the Evaporator coil that makes cold.

My Jenn-Air frig, model JCD2389G,isn't cooling. It's less than 7 years old. Freezer seems fine. Frig is set at coolest and still is only 55 degrees. Cleaned back of frig, what else do I check? thank you,...

Check the fan located in the freezer compartment.

This fan blows the cold air from the freezer into the fridge and is about 40 dollars for the part. Simple to fix too.

We have a LG Two Side Fridge.

Look for the air ciculation regulator sliding vent between frig & freezer section open accordingly. Set both sides to #3 on dials if frig not cooling to less than 40 degrees, might need new cold/temp controller behind frig dial

Freezer not cold enough; fridge OK

Hello cokoliso,
Welcome to Fixya

You said, your Trio won't make ice. Freezer stays at about 25 degrees regardless of control setting. Fridge maintains 40 degrees at mid setting. Shouldn't the freezer be close to zero? Is there a way to check the temperature sensor in the freezer?

To check the temperature you can buy a refrigerator thermometer at the hardware store.
Ask if it can be used in the freezer too!

The fridge sounds slightly to cold and the freezer not enough.
Fist look in your freezer and check if the articles there are full to the max and covering the air vents usually found in the rear of the freezer. If so clear an opening for the freezer to breath.
Refrigerators and freezers usually share the cold air and I've seen this be the problem on many occasions.
If freezer was not I blocking the vents or even full to the max.

Then pull the plug out or if you can not reach the plug, trip the breaker off for 5 minutes and see if this resets the system.BUT do not plug the fridge back in before at least 3 minutes.

Let me know how it goes and send me any questions.
Thank You, Huuum

Cooler wont cool below 48 degrees.

Keep a thermometer handy. (adjust temperature control knob accordingly)
Periodically monitor temperatures inside your cooler. (adjust as necessary)
Keep the refrigerator door closed as much as possible to avoid temperature fluctuations

The temperature of the refrigerator compartment is
controlled by adjusting/setting the thermostat control
knob, located on the ceiling of the refrigerator
cabinet.
To start the refrigerator, and achieve maximum
cooling quickly;
• Turn the temperature control knob (using a coin
or screwdriver) clockwise to the furthest
(maximum) setting on the darker blue section of
the graduated control dial.
• Allow the refrigerator to run at this setting for 3~4
hours.
• When maximum cooling is achieved, turn back
the temperature control knob setting to the 2:00
o'clock position on the graduated blue control
dial.
• Correct cooling temperature is a key factor to
consider in storing and dispensing draught beer.
• Optimum temperature for serving draught beer is
between 34ºF ~ 38ºF.(1ºC ~ 3ºC)
• To maintain temperatures ranging between
34ºF ~ 38ºF.(1ºC ~ 3ºC) We recommend the
thermostat knob be positioned at the "2:00
o'clock" setting on the graduated blue control dial.
• To turn off the refrigerator, (no cooling) rotate the
control knob to the "0" position.
