KitchenAid KUDS01FLSS Built-In Dishwasher. Door tension has failed; when you open door it will just slam straight open - as if the door springs don't exist.
Dishwasher door had worked correctly for 7 years (door tension was OK), then all of a sudden door tension was gone.
I haven't pulled dishwasher out of cabinet to take a look yet; wondering if anyone knows of a common failure mechanish (spring?) on KitchenAid.

the tension springs are quite easy to replace. they are mechanical, so you should be able to just take them off and replace them with the new ones.

OK, pretty easy fix. Look at diagram 10 here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5164885
The link (#24) probably broke and the spring (#18) probably shot off and is lying somewhere behind the dishwasher. Just pull out the dishwasher (careful not to disconnect or crimp any of the hoses) and check to see if both springs (one on each side) can be located. Just replace the old links and re-hook the springs and all should be well.
You can order the link replacement (part #8194001) from kitchenaid at 1-800-422-1230.

You will need to bring the DW about 8-10 inches out from under the counter to access the door springs on the side of the unit.
Any questions, let me know

The door hinges are spring-loaded. One or both hinges have failed.
Items 2 and 3 at the link below are the parts that are needed.

I am not aware of a service manual posted on the internet.
Hope this helps! Please post back with what you end up doing, OK?
Good Luck!

Replaced the tension spring cords. The plastic portion of the cords had broken. I think this is desined to fail since it is such light plastic.
