Carver power amplifier Pm1.5, 110 acv accidentally plug in to 220

The power supply of Carver power amplifier is very much different with older type of amplifier. the power supply seems to be oscilating. I compared this with my other Carver amplifier. when I monitored the the DC voltage of my other normal carver amplifier, I notice that my voltage tester needle were moving a little bit up and down. Compared with my rewinded transformer carver amplifier in which the monitred voltage are steady. I think I really need a schematic diagram to understand what kind of power supply were applied.

For some reason this is all that Fixya shows: "Generic problem for all Amplifiers and Preamps Carver power amplifier Pm1.5, 110 acv accidentally..." and then your description of the fluctuating dc levels. Can you describe in detail the problem behind all this under-the-hood examination?

How to fix couple of DELL desktops where I plugged them into 220 volts Power supply when they were set for 110 volts? More details below.

you could try replacing the power supply. if it still does not work, you probably fried the processor or motherboard. (or both). just make sure the replacement power supply has the same type of connectors on the power leads to the motherboard, hard drive, etc.

Is it normal for carver power amps to have a slight hum? I have a carver-55x

Hum can come from a jillion different places. Is this hum coming from the unit with no speakers connected, or is it heard through the speakers? What sources are being used? What cables? Are thereany common sources of interference near? Troubleshooting is difficult without much information.

110 volts, rated TV was plugged into 220 volts power supply. Now when it was plugged into an 110 volts supply its not getting on? What could be the causes? and please suggest solutions.

It probably fried the power supply in the TV unfortunately. If the electrical surge stopped there then it should just be a matter of swapping out the power supply. Provide a make and model of television and I will see if I can help find one with instructions on how to change it.

Carver amp started making a low fluttering sound.

I have a Carver amp which developed a "hum" also. As a troubleshooting step only (long term this is NOT a solution) you can use a ground plug adapter that removes the ground lug from the unit. This is an adapter that has THREE (Line, Neutral, Ground) female sockets for the amp to be plugged into, and TWO male plugs to go into a wall socket. If the buzz goes away, you've got a leaky capacitor in the Power Supply section of the amp. It will take some doing to actually fix the problem, but this will narrow down the cause.

My Carver M-1.5t is emitting a rapid pulsing sound on both speakers -- low but annoying. I bought it new in around 1983. Is it fixable?

this could be related to the power supply it is the
magnetic field variety that has a thyristor controlling its input check if the voltage supply to the amp outputs is varying when the pulsing is heard. if so
the control curcuit could be at fault.

I have a carver power amp model pm1.5. It's a 110 vac. plug in to 220 VAC. I rewind the Power transformer. but still not ok

It's not just the power transformer that doesn't like the voltage that high. Did you rewind both sides of the transformer too? I rather suspect you might have to rebuild the entire power section. I hope the fuse blew or parts may have gone all over the place.

I Accidentally Plugged My Xbox 360 into a 220 v socket can i still fix my power supply

Ah that sounds dangerous. Well technically everything can be fixed, but it would be easier and probably cheaper to just buy a new one.

If i accidentally plugged it to 220 volts and it was burned in a seconds can it be repaired?

Good day sir/maam, Yes it can be repaired. if you have plugged in a 110v device to a 220v ac mains, chances are its toast, your onkyo's power transformer is burnt, the repair is replacing the toast power amplifier, or we usually rewind the power transformer specification, after the replacement, you may need to check the power supply section for shorted power regulators, and rectifiers. If you choose to send it for repairs, the service is usually reasonable.

I have a A-753x magnified current 3 channel power amplifier that requires a "on/off" switch. This was Carver's weakness in this amplifier, I am looking to replace the switch but having a hard time trying...

I've owned four of the amps from this series and in no way are the power switches the weakness in this product. (A-220, A-753x, A-760x and an A-500x.) If yours is "broken" it had to be an environmental issue or single unit anomaly if yours hasn't held up. I don't get why people are asking your about the output characterstics of the amp because I don't see anything about THAT in your question. Go to Ebay.com and search for "Sunfire Amplifier" and look for a gentleman who's taken over "Rita's" Carver repair service. They both were affiliated with Bob Carver (you can also search for Bob himself under the seller name "audioshopper") and someone can direct you towards somebody who might (MIGHT) have a NOS power switch available. There have to be a ton of switches that will perform the same function, they just might not be a perfect Chassis fit. There's a solution to your problem. If nothing else, straight wire the switch on and plug the amp into a power strip.
