That can happen if the jaws inside the chuck, usually 3 triangular pieces get jammed together. With chuck facing down tap chuck several times to loosen jaws. If that doesn't work spray a small amount of WD-40 into chuck and try again

Okay... I've tried that, and the **** thing will NOT budge. There should have been an instruction manual with the product. I had watched my dad with many different drills, and all of them have keys, but they no longer work. I've tried charging them for days, and they no longer hold a charge. To make matters worse, they don't make the drill anymore either.
So, my first drill is this Black & Decker cordless drill, model number SS12C.
The chuck is open, but locked, and it won't twist or turn at all so I can put the screwdriver bit in, so I can use it. Put in some WD-40, and that hasn't loosened it up either.
Any other ideas? I'm going to take it to Lowe's (where I got it), to see if they can get it un-stuck. I've tried wrenches, vices, and everything I could to get the chuck operational again.
Sincerely,Brian.

Kobalt cordless drill keyless chuck stuck shut

I have the same problem. It got progressively worse over time. The chuck did not want to tighten all the way at times and then got stuck open. There is a screw in the center to hold the chuck on. It is a left hand thread and I believe it loosened and the jaws became jammed on the loose screw. I tapped on the screw using a screwdriver and was able to tighten it a bit thus allowing the jaws to free. I removed the screw, put some thread locker on the threads and reassembled it. Seems fine now

I have a dc 759 it has a plastic cover over the keyless chuck ....it is stripped out.....can i just replace the plastic cover? .... if so how and where can i get one

If the drill is not too old, I would take it to your nearest factory dewalt repair shop. they have a good warranty on their items. If it is older you probably need to replace the chuck itself. You need to remove the plastic to get the chuck open and then there is a screw down inside the chuck that needs removed. The chuck should come right off and just reverse the process to install the new one.

I cannot open a Dewalt 954 cordless drill chuck. My socket adapter is stuck in the chuck. It is a borrowed tool and I need to return it in the same shape that i received it. Help. No TWO men can exert...

if it is a keyless chuck soak the inside of the chuck with oil. charge the battery so you have max power. put a cloth around the chuck and use a pair of channel locks to hold the chuck and put the drill in reverse. good luck

How do you remove the chuck from a dewalt 925 XRP hammer drill

Open the chuck fully and look down the centre and you will see a philips head for a screw the thread on this is opposite so instead of undoing to the left, undo to the right. There is will be a spot of threadlock on the screw so may be a tad tough the first turn, Once removed unscrew the chuck from the spindle of the drill, you may need a good pair of grips or a vice for this as some get very well stuck on! I hope this helps

How to onlock the keyless chuck of my cordless dc988ka drill it was lock to open position

if the chuck is rusted start with some WD-40 on the chuck body. Then what I would do is take a rag and wrap around the chuck collar and using a pair of channel locks grip the collar with enough pressure to hold but not break it and using the tool in the low position pull the trigger switch SLOWLY and see if that doesn't free up the chuck. Let me know if still stuck and I will come up with something else, but this usually works for me.

Dewalt 18 volt cordless drill the chuck is stuck in the fully open position and wont close

Use a pipe wrench on it to give yourself a little more leverage. It is simply jammed all the way open and it will release when you apply enough force.

Drill chuck swap

1. Turn the screw clockwise to take it out.
2. Then you needs 3/8 allen key & insert the short side of the allen key & tighten the chuck.
3. hold the drill at the edge of the table & wack the allen key
counter clockwise & do it again as needed.
4. dewalt keyless chuck will fit but you might add a washer to insure the chuck is not rubbing the clutch collar.
5. putting it back together the other way.
