We was watching tv with audio, then it quit working, ive tried hooking up external speakers to the rear speaker jacks on the tv, but still didnt work, ive tried a vhs tape, rabbit ears antenna, dvd, and direct tv, still no sound, however it does have some static coming through what ever speaker is hooked up, (the stock internal skrs or the ceiling speakers) does anyone have a suggestion for this.. the picture is great, but no sound
Aug 19, 2010: I have an older (10+ years old) RCA ProScan 32" set that lost audio as well. The "unplug for a few minutes" and repower WORKED to restore sound. As an Electrical Engineer, this tells me they had an electronic "latch-up problem" that only could successfully delatch due to loss of power (i.e. the ReBoot to fix the Windows Blue-Screen-of-Death thing). My guess is an NVM (Non-Volatile Memory) problem of some sort, or a sticky latch transistor circuit that was tied to standby power (so as not to delatch without full removal of AC Power Input).
I have a GE 46 in TV that had the same occurrence. I believe it is a sign that the amplifier is overheated or stressed. The way I fixed mine was to unplug TV and leave off for a few minutes -then plug in. I discovered this by accident when the power went off one day and the sound returned (had been using my vcr audio output plugged into my stereo for weeks!) This fix will work for weeks-sometimes months-evidently resets the circuits inside the amp somehow. Last time this happened I also removed the back of TV and blew out the dust with compressed air while it was unplugged-still have sound 4 months later without a "reset"-so I'm guessing it did help .

Your problem is somewhere between the tuner and video detector circuit. The signal entering your TV carries: video, red color, and blue color as well as sychronizing pulses for color and horizontal and vertical deflection ( actually vertical sync. is derived from horizontal sync.) along with burst pulses to synchronize the color. After all these, the sound is an fm signal entwined with a pilot signal for stereo audio. WHAT a mess! After the audio passes through all this, it is detected and sent to the audio processor. If any frequency has drifted away from it's value then you loose the sound. SO... your problem could be in any of the tuned circuits or in the audio processor IC (chip). Any component changing value could creat this problem. Most likely the audio processor IC. You'd need to have the set checked out by a tech to find your problem. Stargazer
SOURCE: No Audio, picture fine
this is a very common problem just unplug tv for 5 minutes it
should fix it . simple fix most of the time with rca and proscan.
If that does not do it go into menu scroll down to audio and then press on .

You can tune to 90 for input 1 S-video, 91 for input 1 composite and 92 for input 2 composite only.
Most RCA and GE brand replacement remotes will work using code 000, or 001. I use code 237 for my 5 in 1 remote and can get PIP and the setup displays to work.

Sound just stopped working and we've tried everything.
I have the same exact problem. I tested the speakers they are working it has to do with something else but I can't figure out what it could be. Please help me out with this issue.
