Grinding sound may be the turntable not sitting properly on its support. Regarding the heat issue, check the door safety interlock switches for proper function.

As you use your oven, open the door while it is running, arcing occurs on the little contacts and they eventually burn. When they cannot make contact, the oven doesn't know if the door is closed or not. Forget what YOU know about the door ... the oven must know and it knows by the information it gets from these switches. Door open, the oven will not turn on the heat.

Turn table wont turn

The turntable system consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours is not set to be off via the control panel, and it won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

In some brands, you have to cut the motor cover off with snips, then use a screw when reassembling it.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

My microwave makes a grinding noise when running and the turntable doesn't work.

Possible there is friction within the drive , the shaft or the motor. You can remove and RESET the drive. Remove the motor , MANUALLY check the motion of the mechanism which will confirm the case. You c an reset using a bit of lubrication.

Ge spacemaker xl1400 model# jvm141obc Turntable still turns..but while making grinding sound Please help

My wife noticed a strong smell of something burning inside our home. Luckily we were home. The microwave was NOT on...and the turntable was turning and making that grinding sound. When I opened the door, the turntable kept turning....all digital lights were OFF. The microwave does not work. I am extremely angry that this unit was able to continue to grind unnoticed. If we were not home, I assure you that this would have caused a kitchen fire. The upper inside portion was extremely hot to the touch and the cabinet on top of the over-the-range microwave was also very hot. This would have easily caused ignition and a subsequent kitchen fire. I am going to report this to the UL.
