The volume goes all the way up or down after pressing either selection on the remote. Two different remotes were used for this and the same problem occurred. But using the volume/channel control on the side of the tv yields normal results. After pressing menu on the remote it will just cycle through the selections by itself. Wondering if there is an at home solution for this problem or do I need to take it in?
It could be 2 issues: faulty remotes or stuck buttons on tv's keyboard. Where did you get 2 remotes? cable or directtv boxes? those are universal and must be programed to work with tvs. or, do you have 2 identical LG remotes in your household? either way, if you have kids on premises and lot of drinks carried around, remotes could be contaminated with fluids inside and malfunctioned. You must become a CSI and figure it out!
Good luck and let me know the results.

Our previous tv was an LG as well and was stolen from our apartment, they did not snag the remote from our place however. So when we went to go get our new LG we tried out the remote on it and it was working perfectly fine until tonight (we've been using it for about 4 months now). Only one has batteries in it, so no conflicting signals are sent out. We have no kids and neither of us touch the side of the tv to adjust anything until something like this happened.
