If a cable is loose, that message will be resolved by tightening up the cables. You may need assistence opening up the computer to tighten the cables.

Otherwise, it appears you will have a failed hard drive, and probably not be able to recover it.

DST stands for Drive Self Test, if it fails the test it means your drive is failing or has failed. replace hard drive

Drive short test failure usually indicates what it says, which is a fault with the drive, but you state that this happened after an update (don't trust windows update!)
do you have have any error codes this could indicate further the exact problem. but usually this type of error would indicate a drive fault which would require replacing the drive

you are correct, time to replace the hard disk drive.

Code 0146 is hard drive read/write failure.

Replace the hard disk drive

This error message is telling you that your hard-drive is nearing OR has already failed.

I would contact a buddy or go somewhere local to get Data recovery ASAP or if that is not important to you start shopping for a new hard-drive.

Hard drives are not very expensive and are simple to install, if you need further assistance please reply back!

A 0146 error means that the hard drive has a failing sector, and the drive will need replaced. If it's operable, then back everything wanted or needed up, because it will fail completely if it hasn't already.
