i too had this problem BUT it was AFTER i descaled it and did the cleaning, now coffee tastes weak, and ive tried different discs (other coffees) and all come up weak.
Make sure the 'vacation' switch is turned on. In addition to the warmer switch on the front of the unit, there should be another switch located on the side/rear of the coffee maker. If that is turned off, the water won't be pre-heated, and you end up with luke-warm water going through the coffee during the brew cycle. If that is not the problem, then there is an issue with the tank heating element and the unit will have to be repaired.
Your heating element is toast! If you want to risk taking it apart, there is a fuse inside that can be replaced and if the fuse is still in working order, (test it using a meter), the heating element is dying. There is nothing else to do, but buy a new coffee maker.
if you still have the receipt, you can get it repair or replace under the warranty, unless the warranty is for 90 days. in that case you are toast.
time for a new one.
replacing the parts is half the price of a new one.
You may have gotten a unit that is minus the piercing apparatus. The little plastic piece with the piercer may come off with the used pod. This never happened to us but my daughter-in-law did, and apparently threw the piercer out with a used pod. They were able to order the part which seems to be easily removable - actually they ordered two while they were at it. Their coffee maker is working just fine.
