I installed a new magnetic seal on my Amana refrigerator. The new seal has been sitting in its box for about ten years. After installation, I realize it has lost its magnetism. Can I rejuvenate it somehow?

Its strips of magnet on the parts of the door and the part of the inner frame of the fridge that hold the door sealed with magnets nice tight seal.

Changing a door gasket on a fridge is one of the most aggravating repairs in my opinion. The best advice I can give on this is make sure you take the door off, do not remove the screws all the way, just loosen then as needed, and heat the new gasket to make it pliable when you put it on the door. Hopefully you machine is one of the ones that has a magnetic gasket so you can just peel the old on off and throw the new one on without a problem.

There is no way that I would spend $800.00 on a ten year old fridge... I can do my own and I would not replace a compressor on a ten year old unit...too many problems afterward...too many other things that could go wrong shortly...

You will be better off to take the $800.00 and put it towards a new unit...

I do not know who installed your compressor or your thermostat. The one main reason is you have a leak in your freon system. I would suggest calling the company who installed the compressor and let them know that they did not seal a line properly. Sorry, good luck.

There are magnets inside the seal this is what keeps it closed. Either the seal is damaged or the magnets are worn out. They do wear out but usually not for at least 10 years depending on the usage.You can go to www.appliancehelponline.com for a diagraam or illustration of your specific model. The parts also come with installation instructions.

Take the door off. You will find a 1/4" screw every 3" to 5" all the way around the door. Remove every one of them. It amy take a couple trips around to get all of them. Before you attempt to install the gasket, soak it in hot water for about an hour (while you are removing the old gasket). This will soften the rubber so that you can work with it. After you have replaced the gasket and re-installed the door. Take a rag soaked in hot water and wipe it slowly around the gasket. This will warm it again. Now take Vaseline and smear a small amount all around the gasket. Close the door and let sit for 15 to 20 mins. Now take a dollar bill, open the door and close it on the bill so that a end of the bill is sticking out. Now pull the bill out slowly. The gasket should have a snug grip on the dollar. If not re-heat it then close the door so that the magnet will pull and stretch the gasket until it touches the box. Do this all around the door to insure that the rubber of the gasket has expanded and allowed the magnet to reach the fridge case. If you take your time, you should have no problem. Good luck

OPEN THE DOOR WIDE . YOU SHOULD SEE THE HINGES THAT SUPPORT THE DOOR. LOOSEN THE SCREWS THAT SUPPORT THE DOOR----JUST LOOSEN , THEN LIFT UP ON THE DOOR AND TIGHTEN THE SCREWS. NOW YOU CAN LET GO OF THE DOOR. I HOPE THAT WORKS FOR YOU . GOOD LUCK.

I would suggest that you put the new water filter back in and try dispensing water for about ten minutes. If there is still a high pitched noise then you could try bleeding the water line at different points along the water circuit (with control over the incoming supply). The fact that you are forcing water through the tank should normally resolve any air locks. The water filter could also be bled of air. Hope this is of some help.
