I have 2 Polaroid flat screen tvs. The 19" is about 2 yrs old and the 32" is about 2 1/2 - 3 yrs. All of a sudden, the 19" after about 30 seconds, went black. I thought cheap tv, get what you pay for. Then a couple of months later, my 32" made a loud POP, and the screen went black. White smoke came out of the top of the tv. Sound was still good on both. Can this be fixed or do I just need to make a trip to the dump?

The main power supply will be the first place to check. You should have at least the standby 5vdc, which is used for the main board, when the power switch is activated, the main board will send out the signal to turn on the main power supply sections to power up the rest of the set. Look for simple thing like blown fuse or bad capacitors. Learn about what bad capacitors can do.

Your inverter boards need to be tested and serviced, these are circuits designed to control the light behind the LCD glass panel. It could also be the power supply not feeding 24volts too the inverter circuits. In that case the power board would need servicing.
Take it back if its under warranty if not get it serviced at your local repair center..
