Hi..This is my first time on this site. I'm hoping someone could help me. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-C140G laptop which is running on Windows XP SP3. I'm having scrolling (and cursor problems).
While using the laptop, the page will start scrolling UP (always UP) without me scrolling. I have an Alps touchpad. I removed, then reinstalled the original Alps touchpad driver(from Sony--the only touchpad driver on their site) but to no avail. I noticed that under "Mouse Properties"-> "buttons" tab that the "left button" drop down menu choice is set to "none" (without me changing it). I change this setting to "click" and sometimes that works (but not always). The next time I check this setting, it is back to "none." Also, the settings under the "wheel" tab->"one screen at a time" radio button is selected (without me changing this setting). When I try to change the setting back to "roll the wheel one notch to scroll 9 times" it is difficult to change because the pointer jumps between the two radio buttons (without me moving the pointer).
Also, the cursor will randomly jump around while I am typing text, thus making it very hard to type; I have to keep moving the cursor back to where I was typing before the cursor moved.
In addition to reinstalling the original Alps touchpad driver, I disabled the touchpad through "Vaio Central" and I bought a USB optical mouse but to no avail; I still have the same scrolling/cursor problems.
I took my laptop to Best Buy to get fixed (had problems with USB ports/headphone port/certain keys on keyboard/dead battery). The tech replaced my motherboard and the keyboard (not sure if the tech changed all the keys on the keyboard or only those that were not working) and I got a new battery. They MAY have changed my hard drive (they could not tell me for sure....they think that may be the reason why I had no operating system when I took my laptop home the first time). The Best Buy techs had to do a system restore. Prior to taking my laptop to get fixed (prior to these hardware changes/system restore), I didn't have these scrolling/cursor problems.
I am currently out of the U.S. and cannot take my laptop back to Best Buy (plus my warranty expired). Can anyone please help me as these scrolling/cursor problems are driving me crazy!
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

This worked for me. Search for Device Manager and open mouse hardware. Roll back to previous driver. This may work.
