Does it appear to have a faint back light visible?
If so you can restart / reboot and refresh the I Phone which should clear this by holding down the power button and home key at the same time. Keep holding them both until the device restarts and shows the apple logo. This should bring it back? Smart phones generally need rebooting when crazy things start to happen. As I Phone is sealed unit this will simulate a forced shut down which is usually done by removing battery on most phones.
Hope that helps?

My Apple IPhone 3G Screen just went blank. It sync's to my ITunes and I restored it but in never turned back on. Any suggestions?

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.
you will have to put the phone in the DFU mode and restore with itunes

To put the iPhone into DFU mode so you can do an iTunes firmware restore follow these steps:

Step One
Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.

Step Two
Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.

Step Three
After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

The iPhone screen will remain black like this:

NOTE***: It may take a few attempts to get your iPhone into DFU mode. Generally, I hold down both buttons then release the Home button just before I think the Apple logo would appear. If you are still holding both buttons down and you see the Apple logo you are holding them down for too long!

My iphone 3g has a blank screen and won't do anything, what can i do to make it work

Try a reset. Hold the sleep button and the home button together until phone turns off and release buttons when you see the Apple logo. The re-boot should take a min or two. This generally solves a lot of problems.
