Google"RJ45 pinouts".There is some sight I found(free)that has connector pinouts for all kinds of stuff. There are several different ways to configure an RJ45(8 pin)jack, depending on the application.
I assume you are using this configuration to connect a phone and not data outlet. The RJ11 connector is used for phones and the RJ45 is used for data. The CAT6 cable has 8 wires and to wire this cable to a RJ45 connector 2 wires on the CAT6 cable are not connected.
Go to this site for a wiring diagram for RJ11 to RJ45.
Most modern computers have a Network Interface Card (NIC) that used an industry standard RJ45 network jack (8 wire connection similar to a telephone RJ11 connector)
Most people now have broadband service (Cable Modem or DSL Modem) that has RJ45 connections. you also may have a Router between the computer and the Modem to share that internet connection with other computers. The router will also have RJ45 connections. Routers can also be wireless, and you can connect via 802.11 A/B/G/N wireless connection if your computer has an 802.11 standard wireless card.
So, once you detail the brand and model computer and the type fo network conenction/equipment you have, I can give more detailed answers.
Verify that the correct settings and cable/connectors (rollover cable, correct COM port specified) are being used when establishing the console connection.
From the manual-
3.9.2 Connecting to an IBM or Compatible Device
To connect an IBM PC or compatible device, running the VT terminal emulation, to an Enterasys Networks module Console port (Figure 3-20), proceed as follows: 1. Connect the RJ45 connector at one end of the cable (not supplied) to the Console port on the Enterasys Networks module. Connecting to Console Port for Local Management Hardware Installation 3-31 2. Plug the RJ45 connector at the other end of the cable into the RJ45-to-DB9 adapter (supplied with the device). 3. Connect the RJ45-to-DB9 adapter to the communications port on the PC. 4. Turn on the PC and configure your VT emulation package with the following parameters:
Parameter Setting Mode: 7 Bit Control Transmit: Transmit=9600 Bits Parity: 8 Bits, No Parity Stop Bit: 1 Stop Bit

It means that there are four ISDN BRI S/T interfaces on the device. Each BRI line contains two phone numbers at 64Kbps of bandwidth each so the Quad BRI would supply 128Kbps x 4 or 512Kbps of bandwidth.
This is for a newbridge or alcatel 3624 mainstreet channelbank - do not use the modem side, only use the terminal side - all is needed is Rx, Tx, and ground - if looking from the "window" side of rj45 connector, or pins-side up on rj45 socket.
per Wikipedia; "RJ45 is technically incorrect because the RJ45 standard specifies the mechanical interface but a different wiring scheme than T568A/B, which is often used for Ethernet and telephones." So it's a standard set by a wiring authority. Actually it should be called 8P8C.
