The game is for the PS3, not the PS2, which means it won't play on an older system.

Have you reinstalled the game after installing a new OS? I hope reinstalling the game will solve the problem.

The servers don't go live until Friday (23rd) as that's the official release date of the game. Don't panic.

This is a confirmed issue for PES '08.
You'll need to wait for it's developer to come with a patch.

Some games magazines say PES is unplayable because of this defect and the company says there working on a patch.

Nothing more to do then hang in there.
I know this isn't helping you at the moment, but there's nothing you or I can do.
