What is the nickname for the constellation hydra

I believe the nickname is "The Sea Serpent" . Hydra is the longest constellation in the sky and is also the largest in terms of area. It is so long that it takes more than six hours to rise completely. Along its northern side, we can observe the zodiacal signs of Cancer, Leo, Virgo and Libra. The stars in the serpent's head appear to be at the same distance but they are really very far away from each other. The northernmost of the six stars in the head of the serpent, Epsilon Hydrae, is a quintuple star - a system of five stars. Alphard (Arabic for "the solitary one") is Hydra's brightest star.
In Greek mythology, Hercules slew Hydra, a horrible serpent with many heads that grew back as soon as they were cut off. Killing the Hydra was one of Hercules' twelve labors, during which he also defeated Leo, the lion, and Draco, the dragon.

Red giants

Mira-

Mira was named by Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius. The name means "wonderful" or "astonishing" in Latin. The star is a model for the category of stars known as Mira variables. Mira variables are pulsating variable stars, usually red giants, with pulsation periods longer than 100 days and light amplitudes exceeding one magnitude.

The screen looks like it has stars in the background.

It sounds either like an issue with the optical light engine or less likely with the main digital board----

How to look at stars

Your telescope is fortunately of a type (a refractor) that is ready to go once you take the lens cap off, and mount an eyepiece in it.
The magnification you will get does not matter much if you are looking at stars, but it is the focal length of the scope, 900mm, divided by the focal length of the eyepiece. So for example 900/20 = 45x.
The next step is to obtain a sky chart such as
http://www.fourmilab.ch/yoursky/cities.html

(adjust this to show the local horizon) and then either print or take the PC outside and match it with the constellations you see.

Some stars are more interesting to look at because they are coloured (Betelgeuse - Alpha Orionis) or actually double stars (Rigel Kent - Alpha Centauri). See

Another way is to identify a Constellation, and then look up Wikipedia for that. You will find info on the resident stars there eg

Cannot see map of stars no light in sky

CCCConrad446, this device, the stellarscope, is not made to be an overlay while your looking up at the nights sky. Its for referance.. so you can learn the constellations, and see the movements of stellar bodies, where they'll be over certian times of night, and from which poles.. this really is a helping tool for the novice, * such as me, - to aid in the direction your looking, and what you'll expect to see, and when. don't give up on it. it really is a cool piece. try to enjoy.
