I have a Nordictrack EXP 1000 Treadmill (Model # NCTL0999.3) which quits after about 10 minutes of running on it. After a few minutes, it will start again, but has the same problem but only runs for a couple of minutes. I have lubricated and adjusted the walking belt, replaced the motor and drive belt (and adjusted properly), but the same thing happens.
I have a few questions:
1. What is the most likely cause? Is it:
(a) power board?
(b) controller?
(c) walking belt worn or
(d) choke {called that in parts list, but I think it is what I'd normally call a transformer}
2. If I replace the walking belt, under what circumstances would I need to replace the walking board and rollers? How can I tell if they need replacing?
Any help or suggestions you could provide would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Hello There, Thank you for all the information. It appears as if your walk belt is worn. What is happening is the friction from the bottom of the belt is actually causing the motor to overheat (there is a thermal cutout inside where the 2 blue wires go) When the belt wears the cloth on the underside becomes flattened out causing too much surface area to contact the walk board, thus the extra friction.
To check your walk board you can loosen the adjusting bolts on the rear and while lifting the walk board look underneath. If there is any wear/white areas then you will need to replace the board as well. You will be able to tell by just rubbing your hand across it and check for any places where the black film may be coming off.
Also the only time you really need to replace any of the rollers is when the bearings go bad or the pulley on the front roller separates. The rollers are about a 1% chance of causing this problem.
Good Luck! and great question, Tim
