Light switch is off but lights stay on. Lights only turn off when breaker is off. When breaker is on, light switch in room doesn't turn lights off. Have tried several switches but none will turn power off to lights.

It sounds like the problem is in your light. Leave your circuit breaker in the OFF position, as well as, the light switch. Then, take down the light, or lights...and check out each connection in the light box. It's best to do one at a time, this way you can go by process of elimination. If there's a lot of lights working off this switch. You can disconnect all the lights from the middle of the room. Put wirenuts on all the bare wires, and then try and see if your lights come on without tripping the circuit. If it trips, then you know the problem is further down the line. I'm going to assume there's only one or two lights, so take them down and check the splices (connections). It seems like you have a loose wire at one of the lights. AC household electricity?

Common (White) wire goes to all three lights. Goes to silver colored screw.
Hot (Black) wire goes to switch, then all three lights.

ALWAYS put the switch in the hot wire. Not the Common.
Reason?
Let's say you are changing a light bulb.
Your feet are on the floor. You are then considered to be Grounded.

You have the light switch off. You go to remove the light bulb, slip, and a finger goes in the socket.
Result?
You get shocked.

Hot (Black) wire has the switch. This time of you slip, and a finger goes in the light bulb socket; you won't be shocked.
The power is turned off at the switch.

Common wire comes from source. (Service Panel/'Breaker Box'), and goes to the lights.
Hot (Black) wire comes from source, and goes to light switch.
Then to the first light, second light, and third light.

Is there a 3-way switch involved?
Walk in one end of the room, turn the light on, walk to the other end of the room, and turn it off?

More than likely tripped the circuit breaker for that circuit in the main breaker panel. I would check they should be labled for which one controls the lights for that room. Just turn it off and back on to reset the breaker switch.

1. ok so you have lights in two rooms, but not in the third,check first with an electrical tester ( buy it at lowes or home depot) to see if there is power to the switch, if there is power, it could be just a bad switch, to test switch, go turn off breaker to rooms , check to see if you have the right one with tester, the remove switch and wire nut the wires together, go turn on breaker if light come on replace the switch, if not then you need to get an electrician to come and troubleshoot why, hope this helps

My arc fault breaker trips in my bedroom when ever a load is put on line. The trunk line comes into a three gang switch box and feeds the entire room. At times I can turn my ceiling fan and light on for 10 to 20 minutes before the breaker trips. Other times the breaker will trip when either switch is first turned on. I plugged a 4 watt night light in a wall receptical, without the ceiling light or fan on, it also trips the breaker. I have had other plug in lamps, 60 watt, work in other recepticals for a while. The problem seems to appear in all recepticals and lighting in the room.

Try installing a toggle switch to cut the power and the light may be on because you have the illumination wire hooked up.

that clicking is probably arcing from a loose wire somewhere like on a outlet or the hot wire is touching a ground ( metal) somewhere.. you have to disconnect every light and outlet that the fuse is on and one by one reconnect them to find the culprit...Also it is possible for the breaker itself to be bad

yes you are useing to much power on 1 breaker

Try hooking the TV to a different outlet fed by a different breaker. Does the problem go away? If so, the culprit may be a wiring problem in your house that is causing the TV not to get enough power unless the dining room light is on.If in doubt, consult an electrician to make sure both the dining room light and TV outlet circuits are working properly.
