Flashing Standby/Stero light and No picture.

When I press Power, I hear a relay click, and the hum of the degauss circuit, and the crackle of the CRT charging up. Sometimes there is a brief flicker of light on the CRT. The Standby/Stereo light flashes red continuously. But no picture. Normally after about 5 seconds I would hear another click and the picture would pop on, but now I don't hear the second click.

How good is your picture when it did come ? Is it as good as it once was ? Or is it alittle washed out. If it is washed out the picture tube is weak . Sometimes turning up the screen control alittle would solve problem but if you turn it up too much you would have faint white line running diagonally. Now if you think the picture was good before you this problem video circuit would be your suspect . Jungle IC or something in the RGB circuits . Good luck

No degausse function on remote

HELLO

The degauss operates only when you switch the TV on (not from standby). You might hear a noise when you switch it on like a "boing" sound and this indicates the degauss circuit is functioning.

If however you have green and purple on the screen then the degauss posistor has failed and will need replacing.

Hope this goes some way to helping you

When I press the 'power' button, I hear it click, but no picture comes on. I hear it click a couple more times, then it stops.

If it clicks then goes to standby, then the fault is in your power supply circuit. If the sound comes on then the fault is in the line timebase circuit. Aquick way to check the line circuit is to place the back of your hand about 1" from the screen as you switch on, you will feel the hairs on your hand standing to attention.

Relay clicks, but No sound, No picture.

Hello, just try this first.

Unplugged the unit the power outlet for about 60 sec. Then power it on again. If you have surge strip along the line. You should directly switch in on power outlet only. If this doesn't help.

As the relay is working you have power in standby mode. Check its supply voltages if its ok. Secondly you can check the the B+ supply it is in DC, If this is a crt type tv, check its horizontal output transistor, Check its flyback for short circuit. Capacitor near to it rated almost 800V, and deflection coil.

Just for input, hope it helps

Jvc tv av-32d502 timer light is flashing will not turn on

Hello, I am a tv tech. I worked on a JVC AV-32D502 today. Problem: led flashes / no power or picture at all. Same as trobertson52's set. The microprocessor is bad in my machine. trobertson52, if your sets' relay does not click when the power button is depressed you most likely have the same problem or the standby power circuit is at fault. That circuit supplies +5 volts to the micro.

Edtal you have a different problem with your machine. Your machine is going into shutdown. A number of circuits could cause this and would need to be looked at by a technician to determine exactly which circuit is at fault. High voltage transformer (HOT) \ Vertical Circuit \ Power supply are the most likely causes.

Degausser

I don't have the service manual copy. I was servicing these sets more than 6 years ago when I was working with a service contractor for warranty repairs.

The degausser is very simple. The AC is switched on with the relay. The relay feeds the degausser in series with the thermisistor. There is not very much involved to trace this out by following the traces on the circuit board.

The common fault is that the thermistor goes bad. You can order this part from any of the parts distributors for Sony parts. I cannot remember the cost of the thermosistor, but I think that from Sony it was in the area of about ten dollars at the time.

It is very rare that the coil or the relay goes bad. On some rare occasions I have seen cold solder connections cause the degausser to not function.

Your set will work with no degausser working. You can order from any place that sells parts for TV service, a manual degaussing coil that plugs in to the AC. You can manualy degausse the CRT face several times per week. This should work out well.

Manual CRT degausser coil:

My preference is original parts. But, if you want to chance an after market part check the link below.

Donberg Electronics sells some types of thermistors:

In the service shop we used a manual degausser when were changing picture tubes. We needed to have the screen degaused very fast so that we can do the purity and convergence set-up.

TV Sony KV-29F1E turn-on failure, red standby LED flashes (starts after 10-20 attempts)

When the set ends up flashing the LED, it should be a repeatable count. Can you please report that count here? Also, since the set eventually works, I'd suspect a bad connection or a part that has changed value over time. The blink code will help to narrow down the offending circuit.
