I had to open the 613 up to get some fluff out of the cooling fan. After I put it all back together, I got the the same Smartcard message.
I bought the computer secondhand at an auction and it has worked fine for the last 3 years. Of course I don't have a smartcard or anything else that would have come with the computer. I called Acer and they basically told me to buy another laptop. Very helpful that was!.
    Question:
How do I get this thing off. Its my computer and would like to be able to use it again.
    Cheers

    Addendum to previous posting:
The smartcard prompt won't let me do anything and doesn't ask for an emergency disk. If I tap any key after the 4th or 5th time it says "too many retry. System blocked"

Dear ASHOON,
If The installer will prompt you to create an Emergency Card, a
temporary replacement of your SmartCard, in case your SmartCard
is unavailable (lost/stolen).

Note: To use the Emergency Card to regain access to Windows,
press Alt+Ctrl+E while the PlatinumSecure screensaver is running and then insert the Emergency Card. If you lose both your SmartCard and the Emergency Card, bring your computer to the nearest service center and ask them to reissue you another Smart card.

I have the same problem on my 19-year-old Acer Travelmate 350TE (It was made in 2000, holy sh**t). I have also changed CMOS battery and have had this message: "PlatinumPAS: PreBoot Authentification Services Verify. Please insert a valid SmartCard".
But i haven't any SmartCard because I've bought this notebook on eBay.
So I have tried all the ways: holding for 1 minute the "Power button" after removing all batteries and power-cord. Then I have tried to boot with "Switch 3" turned on. - No effects. Then I disassemble my laptop in hope that there "shorting contacts". - Also without result. Haphazardly I've downloaded the "service manual" for my model of laptop, where was written that "Switch 3" is used for keyboard layout, not for password bypassing. But the Switch 6 was! So if all the method don't work - look forward, don't stop!

Asus desktop bios pass

Hello a bios password is fairly easy to come buy.

Open the case, and locate the cmos battery on the mainboard:

3_19_2013_3_35_29_pm.jpg

Remove the battery for like 20 min, and insert the battery again.
This will clear the bios password.

But you have to setup the whole bios, boot setings, clock, date, etc, before the pc can run again.

Visit asus here:

http://www.service.asus.com/#!Downloads/c1wax

And enter the mainboard number, or use auto detect to find the mainboard.

This is for downloading the manual, if in doubt setting up the bios.

Good luck

Hi, i have a acer Travelmate 612TX. The bios battery was out of order. After i replaced the battery the computer displays the following message: "PlatinumPAS: PreBoot Authentication Services...

You could try to enter the bios setup, and disable the smartcard device. Then save the changes and exit. It will reboot, and it should be ok now.

Dish Network "Blue" Smart Card upgrade... Now get only "015"

The solution is usually a simple one and that has been suggested already but I will ask you to try one thing first. Remove the new smartcard and do not put one in. If the receiver still displays a picture and yoou can get to menu 611 run a check switch. After this is performed cancel out of the screens and re insert the new smartcard. Once the system comes back up perform the same steps as you did before with the smart card removed. If this fails you can try the solution they offered which was to update the sofware. There is no reason your software should be outdated if you were using this receiver before the new smartcard but try anyway as it may SOMEHOW work. Using the remote turn the receiver itself off. Allow the receiver sometime to turn itself back on-this could take awhile so plan this when you leave for work or are going to be gone from the house for sometime so you do not get bored waiting for this to occur. If the receiver has not turned back on in 45 minutes or more then the receiver will either need replacing -which i suggest- or they will try to send you a new smartcard if you talk to Cust service. Tell them you want a service call to fix the receiver. While you have them on the phone verify your receiver number and the new smartcard number which is on the back of the card and ask them to send a hit to the receiver. If the receiver has not been associated with the new smartcard or if the smartcard was not loaded with all of your programmming this should fix the issue. Thanks for using Fix Ya.
