A L1 error code deals with the movement of the scanning unit. I would clean the scanning rail and re-lubricate it. Basicly the scanner can not find home postion or is timed out. Good Luck

Yes timing is everything with motors if the cylinder isn't firing at the right time all u are doing is filling the cylinder with raw fuel and dumping it into exhaust un burned it can eventually ruin you're catalytic converters also, get it professionally timed you're truck will run like a champ, unles u already caused damage.

replace the egr valve unit.make sure u do not have a vacuum leak in the line that lead in and out of the EGR unit.the egr controls how much fuel to dump into the injectors depending on the vacuum pressure in its system.sometime to much fuel sometimes to little fuel.
