If its in warranty, take it back to where you purchased from. If its out of warranty, then you can remove the base from the laptop and remove the fan - goto a store to buy a new fan (if possible) - otherwise attempt to fix. Could be the bearing on the fan thats gone.

If you try to fix yourself, make sure you observe anti-static precautions.

SOURCE: sony vaio fan is making a grinding noise, how can

The sony VGN-S460 seems to have an inherent problem with their cpu fans. It is apparent that the fan uses a ball bearing system which over time becomes worn and causes the grinding sound.

The only solution is to replace the entire fan assembly as they are inseparable.

My problem with my Sony VGN-SZ330P is the fan, it producing some loud noises, sounds like its grinding something

You can blow compressed air into the cooling vents of the fan. If you notice clouds of dust coming out, then it might be a good idea to disassemble the laptop, clean the fan & air ways, & reassemble it back. If the fan has failed & is no longer running, it might need to be replaced.

Fan grinding sound

Fan grinding sound usually comes from the fan that sits atop of the CPU. Get the CPU fan replaced cause the bearings are going bad.

Annoying noise from inside my Vaio

I had the same problem with my Vaio, and I called in Sony Support and they called in a technician who came to my house in 2 days! Apparantly Sony got a batch of defective fans and if you are still under warranty they will replace it for free. Good luck!

Noisy fan--sony vaio vgn-s460

then if that is the problem to your pc then turn your pc upside down and dissassemled the screw at the back then your keyboard should be lift up slightly and if you can not do that on your own try to contact someone in that field to help you but just for you to tell the person that you know what is wrong w2ith the pc the person should try and check if there is anything too close to the fan that the fan is touching and if there is nothing the fan is touching and the noise continue then change the fan with a new one. bye any question again.
