My wife experienced a glitch that caused the machine to not complete a cycle.
A. Whites cycle: timer had moved to the off position with water still in the tub, she selected another cycle and the machine ran all the way thru the cycle.
B. Gentle cycle: the machine agitated for a few seconds then stopped, again she reset and the machine completed a the gentle cycle.

My maytag atlantis washing machine sometimes fills and fills with water to start a cycle, but drains at the same time. This means it never senses the water level as full enough to begin, so it just fills and fills for hours on end. It's like the sensor for how full the load is is broken, or something. Any similar problems? Know how to fix it?
Then its could be the drain pump. The machine pumps water for certain amount of time. In that time if the water does not get pumped then it will not go properly into the next stage of cycle (rinse, dry). Check to see if something is blocking the drain pump. (I have noticed pieces of clothing like socks could somehow get in there, don't know how)

If the washer is working properly in the wash cycle & not the rinse or spin cycle, I would suspect a defective timer especially with the delay of 30 mins you described. Replace the timer with this part.
The water dripping into the tub is caused by the fill valve solenoid not closing completely. The fix is to replace the fill valve. The overfilling of the washer is caused by the pressure switch. Over time the diaphram within the pressure switch becomes fatiqued & fails. The fix for this is to replace it as well... Hope this helps... Bill
If you say this only happens on the Colors and Whites cycle i dont see what the lid switch or balance sensor (if your washer has one) would have to do with it. It does seem like it has something to do with the timer,,, it really sounds like maybe the (Colors & Whites) section of the timer is malfunctioning. Inside the timer, there are a series of gears and switches, and by slamming the lid, or tapping on the timer control knob,,, it could maybe help the damaged part of the gear move, temporarily "fixing" the problem
The first time she said there was water in the tub.
not the next time.
