You can connect to the FW appliance:
1. trough the cosole port
2. through the inside ethernet port
Either way you will need to get the random key from the LCD on the front.
1. requires learning the console menu
2. requires a client application installed on a Windows or Linux Host

I cant figure out how to connect my jornada to my pc.. can you help?

Hi,

Are you connecting from dock to USB on computer, or serial to USB via a USB-serial adapter? UBS-serial adapters are notorious for not recognizing attached serial hardware. What kind of errors are the Jornada and the computer throwing? Can you give any specific error numbers?

If you are connecting using the serial cable to a serial port on your computer you need to make sure that the Jornada is trying to connect to the correct COM port (and that the computer is allowing connections through the correct COM port). Do this by:
1. Open Device Manager (R-Click on My Computer - Properties - Hardware - Device Manager)
2. Expand the "Ports (COM)" plus sign
3. Beside each COM port's name it will say (COM#) - the # tells you which port the COM is
4. Go into ActiveSync and open Connection Settings (in the File menu in ActiveSync 4.5 - the latest)
5. Make sure all the check boxes are checked and that the correct number COM port is selected in the drop down menu under "Allow connections to one of the following:"
6. Connect your Jornada via the serial cable, make sure the Jornada is on and connected to power cable (I have had more success with the power on - may or may not affect your problem)
7. Click the "Connect..." button in ActiveSync. The Jornada should be detected.

If your computer has an infrared port you could try that, I have had a lot of success with infrared connections with my Jornada. Also, try installing ActiveSync on another computer that has a serial port and try connecting the Jornada to that computer. It may be a problem with your computer.

An older version of ActiveSync should not make a difference. The facilities are the same, just slightly rearranged.

Please post your feedback and Vote if the problem resolved as per your satisfaction.

Bytecc 2.5 Mobile HDD Hotdrive

You don't need any specific software for Windows 2000 or above - the operating system will have the correct drivers built-in.

It should mount either on FireWire or USB (depends on which version you have - there's also a combo version).

If you're connecting via FireWire, you will need to make sure you are using a powered 6-pin FireWire connection. If your computer only has a 4-pin FireWire port, it won't provide power to the drive, so the drive won't spin up, and the system won't see it.

If you're connecting via USB, make sure you're connected to a USB 2.0 port. If you're connecting to USB 1.1, you need to connect both USB connectors on the supplied USB cable to the PC. One connector is data+power, and the other connector (the one that "branches off") is just power.

Check whether the device appears in Device Manager (hit Windows-Pause, or right-click My Computer go to Properties, Hardware, then click Device Manager).

It should appear as a hard disk drive.

Since your friend was using it on a Mac, it might be formatted as a Mac volume so Windows won't mount it as a drive letter.
Right-click My Computer, go to Manage, then click Disk Management. Either a window will pop up and ask you about initializing the disk, or an additional disk with "Unknown parititon" will appear as Removable Disk. Whatever you do, do not mess with any of the disk blocks with drive letters, especially C: as that's your system drive.

The easier method may simply be to ask your friend for format the disk as FAT32 for you. Then it'll mount in Windows and you can format it as NTFS if you need to.
