No ink on paper after printing

I have just inherited two 5140 and the first one works perfectly. When trying to do a test print with the second printer i manually feed the paper which it takes through the printer but nothing is on the page when it has finished it then appears to want a second sheet which when I manually feed it feeds it through the printer most of the way (Jams when sticking half way out) - again there is nothing on this page apart from a bit of a mark from a roller.

The first printer (the one that works) has Brother toner and the second printer has toner with an IMPEGA label on (presumably an OEM?) I have tried the Brother toner in the second printer but this does not make any difference.

I would be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks a lot. Jane

I have the same issue. I thought the drum had gone out, so I replaced the drum AND toner with a new one (drum 510 and toner 570). I get some text at the top like it tried to print, but it just prints nothing on the pages.

SOURCE: Brother MFC 7420 Paper Jam

After changing the drum, toner and running around town for days trying to find a reliable place to get this printer repaired, I realized I was spending a lot more money than what the printer actually costs. the drum was over $100, toner was $80, and the printer is $250. I bought a new one, and I can now use the old one for parts.

SOURCE: Non stop paper jams

I had this same problem. I finally noticied that the problem occurred consistently on the right side of the paper feed. I discovered that a little part along the right side of my drum unit (just inside the paper feed area) had disconnected and was loose inside the drum unit itself. Once this little part was placed back into it's rightful place, VOILA! Problem solved! Hope this helps!

SOURCE: label sheets won't feed, jam

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

good luck..

Why do my pictures have lines across them?

Try running one or two ink cartridge cleaning cycles to help clear the air out of the ink nozzles. New cartridges aren't always perfect to begin with. After doing the cleaning try running a test print from your printer setup or installation properties window. If this print is good try printing another picture on a plain piece of paper rather than photo paper. If it prints OK then use your photo paper. I say this so you don't waste your photo paper. If you get lines in the test print, return the cartridge and see if the place you bought it from will exchange it for another one. If they will not exchange it try to get them to make the cartridge print correctly. You may have to bring your printer to them. This is the best advice I can give you, I hope it helps.

My HP deskjet 2050 all-in-one printer only shoots out blank paper and won't print. It used to say there was no paper in it, which there was. It scans & prints just fine - just won't print...

Any error messages on the printer digital screen or the desktop? I take it the "The ink is fine" means that there is ink in the cartridges!

Try a test print via the Control Panel> Printers and Faxes> properties > Print test page.

I have a brother HL-5140 which has some nasty ink spodges on each page. Have carefully cleaned wire as recommended . Is there anything else I can do?

if they are evenly spaced, it will be 1 of 2 things, either the fuser or the drum, if you want to check the drum, take it out, take the toner out of the drum, and rotate the drum by turning the gear, be careful not to touch the drum not have it in direct sunlight or incandescent light and see if you can find the spodges on it.
you can also do a test print, print from the manual tray, and open the main cover after the paper goes in almost all the way. open the door, take the drum out and look at the paper, take it out slowly in the direction the paper was going and see if you see the splodge, if you do, again you will know its the drum.

When i print a document, part of the print will be perfect, a couple of sentences, and then several sentences you cannot read at all, its too light or part of the letters are missing - for instance on an...

Follow the steps below to perform basic print quality troubleshooting.

1. Check your paper and verify that the all-in-one has clean, white, inkjet-rated or multipurpose paper in it. In many cases copier grade papers or paper specifically for Laser printers should NOT be used. These papers are frequently coated and are not intended for dye-based inks. The paper container should also have a brightness and weight listed on it. Generally speaking, the brighter and heavier the paper, the better the printout will look. HP recommends papers with at least 90 brightness and 75 g/m2 (20 pound) ratings.
2. Verify that the all-in-one is on a firm surface that fully supports its weight and does not move as the all-in-one prints. If the all-in-one is placed on a desk or other surface that is free to move or shake as the all-in-one prints, the printout will not look as good as it should.
3. Refilled or remanufactured print cartridges will often produce inferior results. HP will not support any print problems that result from the use of remanufactured and refilled print cartridges since their quality is not in HP's control. If you are using refilled or remanufactured print cartridges, replace them with a new HP print cartridge.
4. Print a self-test page from the all-in-one to verify that the all-in-one is working correctly. If the self-test prints correctly, go to Step 3. If the page does not print correctly, verify that the ink cartridges have ink in them. Then, unplug the power cord from the all-in-one, wait five seconds, and plug it back in. Contact HP for assistance if a self-test page still will not print. To print a self-test page, follow the step below:
5. Press SETUP (or MENU ) until " Print Report " displays, then press ENTER .
6. Examine the self-test page printed by your all-in-one.

i. If the colors are correct and the text is sharp and clear on the self-test page, the problem is not the all-in-one or the print cartridges. The problem is the print settings, the file being printed, or the program you are printing from. Continue to step 7 below.
ii. If the colors on the demo page are not correct or are missing, review HP document Printed Pages Are Missing One or More Colors but No Error Message Appears (buu02176) (in English).
iii.If the printout is not sharp or clear, skip the remaining steps in this section and review the remaining information in this document.

7. Try printing the document again but try changing the print settings by following these steps:

1. Within the application you are trying to print from, click File and then click Print . This will bring up the print screen.
2. Verify that the correct printer is selected and then click Properties .
3. On the Quality tab, verify that the correct paper type is selected, and then change the Print Quality setting to Best . Verify the settings on the remaining tabs are correct and then click OK .
4. Print the file you were trying to print again.

i. If the problem is corrected, the problem was the print settings. There is no need to continue troubleshooting.
ii.If the problem still exists, try printing on different paper.

8. Print a different file or image. If you have a file that printed well in the past, try printing that file. Low quality originals will not print very well. Screen captures and images from the internet are often at around 75 dpi. These images are at too low of a resolution to print well. If the self-test page looks good but your image does not, even after changing the print settings, the problem may be the original file. Cheers!!

COLOR NOT VIVID

The DeskJet 940c is not really the highest quality printer out there on the market. However, having said that, the printer is still capable of producing decent quality printouts. You might play with your printer settings for print intensity, lightness, ink volume.
