M-Audio Keyboard 49e disfunctions after some time

I have an m-audio 49e keystation that works perfectly fine with my laptop .. until it suddenly becomes undetectable. I could be doing anything - playing on the keyboard, recording midi, or not even touching it; and after a while it will just 'disappear' and no sound will play from it anymore. The lights on the keyboard is still on, but it just remains undetected. Then even if i take it out from the USB port and put it back in, or restart my sequencing software(s), it remains undetected. I have to restart the WHOLE computer for it to be accessible again. The time it takes for the keyboard to stop functioning varies very widely - sometimes it could stop detection after just 5 seconds of opening my sequencing software, sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes even after an hour.

Please help me. It is really hard for me to do work fast when i keep having to restart the computer.

Sounds like it might be a power supply issue. Unless it is mains powered.

Try removing all other USB devised. If that doesn't work its worth try a Mains Powered USB hub.

The piano wizard software won't recognize keyboard

you should go to your  utilities --> audio midi setup and make sure your system is recognising your midi device. Play around with your midi settings, see if you can get something going.
Otherwise the problem maybe with the software clashing with Leopard. Double check on the manufactures website that their software is compatible with 10.5.6, or they may have an update for you.
Thirdly you could check if you keyboard is working correctly by opening garage band and making a new software instrument track, press record and see if you get any thing.
Good Luck hope this helps.

M-Audio keystation 49e stopped working

JA user_offline.gif vbmenu_register("postmenu_31136", true); M-Audio Tech Support Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: Irwindale, CA Posts: 5,033 icon1.gif "I asked our repairs department and they said the problem is either the main board or the velocity board. You can order both boards from our repairs department and return the one that is not needed. The main board goes for $20 and the velocity board for $14. 626-610-2529, Mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm Pacific Time."

I just found this in the M-Audio forums. I've just called the number and left a message at M-Audio requesting a callback. I'm really hoping that tech support will have a solution for whatever is causing this malfuntion. . . I'll post here again when the parts come.

Notes that won't sound

Try to reset the keyboard. Locate the numberpad on the Keystation Pro 88, press and hold down the + & - buttons while powering on the device. This will reset the device but any stored presets will be lost. I hope this helps...more information can be found on M-Audio's website.
