My hp2009m monitor goes into sleep mode

I have a hp2009m flat monitor and hp media specialist tower, my problem is that every thing works fine until we shut them down, the tower works but the monitor says it is going into sleep mode and then the screen goes black. We have another tower that we can plug the monitor up to and it takes off and works fine. So I am thinking that I have a problem with the port that the monitor plugs into. Can I replace just that port, or how do I fix the problem?

When I restart my computer the monitor says that it is going into sleep mode, then can't wake it up, no matter what we do.

You've said that you tried the hp monitor on a different computer and the monitor worked fine. You might try a different monitor on the HP computer to see if it is in fact the serial port on the computer. If a different monitor won't function then it is possibly the port. On a lot of motherboards, the video port is hard-mounted meaning you can't simply unplug it and plug in a new one. However, you may be able to buy an after-market video card and place it in an open PCI slot and just bypass the on-board video. But I wouldn't go that far until you've determined for sure that the problem is the port.

Are you saying that, when you shut the computer down the screen displays the message, or after you restart your computer, the monitor continues to show that it is going into sleep mode?

Monitors are programmed to go to sleep when there is no input. If you shut it down on the other "tower" also it will do the same. You need to physically hit the power button on the monitor to actually shut it off.

My monitor has kicked into sleep mode and won't "wake up".

Unplug all the Cables from Compaq Presario 5103 CL and leave the Keyboard, mouse and monitor cable pluged in.

Now make sure the power cable of the monitor should be pluged in and the power cable of the tower should be pluged in.

Now to check if the montor is fine just unplug the video cable only which will show no input signal on the screen. If it shows this signal the monitor is fine. Plug back in the video cable.

If the monitor is going to sleep mode it might be possible that the old computer ( Compaq Presario 5103 CL ) is in stand by mode. hit any key on the keyboard and it should come back .

If it is not in the stand by mode then do one thing. Check the same monitor with the new computer. If it is working. Perfect ..!

Do one thing now ..!

Unplug all the cables from your old system and then press the power button for 30 sec and let it go. Now plug the keyboard, mouse and the monitor try again.
If it works Perfect. If not ..!

Then you need to open the tower and check on the processor FAN is it running..? If its not running you will not get the display as the fan is responsible for the display on the screen. Otherwise...!

Check the Tower possibly the Tower is not getting the power.

Try these steps and let me know If it works

I have had problems with communication between the tower and the monitor. I recently bought a Dell flat screen monitor. The monitor worked for about two months, now when it is turned on, it immediately...

Sorry it IS the monitor this is a common problem, unfortunately, this is evidenced by the fact it still didn't work when connected to another machine, regardless of lack or message. Do a warranty claim.

No DVi input, then computer goes to sleep

Hi publicworker,

I had a similar problem whereas my monitor went to sleep mode after a few minutes. I'm running an HP LP 2065 in dual mode with another HP flat screen. However, I did resolve the issue after resetting the output settings.

How to do that:
  • right mouse click on the desktop
  • select graphic options
  • output to
  • extended desktop
Maybe some changings/modification will help you too.
