Try adding between a teaspoon to a heaping tablespoon of Baking Soda or Washing Soda to your dish washer soap.. Both seem to work. Baking Soda is actually food grade if that worries you. Not supposed to eat Tide pods and people use them in dishwashers. lol. So I have also used Arm and Hammer washing soda. This is also dirt cheap compared to things like Jet Dry. It not only softens the water it also knocks foaming or suddsing way down. I use a small amount of Dawn or Cascade and some Baking Soda and glasses come out crystal clear. Use dish soap at own risk. It WILL make a huge foamy mess without Baking Soda or if you get the ratio off too much. Before I tried this my dishes came out covered in horrible white spots so bad I had to hand wash them and the spots were stubborn.

Why are you answering questions from Feb 25, 2008? No point in that! And beware of copy and pasting the same answer to multiple Questions.

  • larry smith Jan 05, 2024

    Hello,
Thank you for the question. Because when people ask a question related questions from the past come up. So why not? Other people also see those questions. I have time and enjoy helping people if I can.
When people ask basically asking the same question the asnwer is also the same answer. Copy and paste is a nice feature that saves a lot of typing. You should try it when it is needed. Why would anyone need to beware of it?

The problem is hard water. www.dishwasherfilter.com has a product to solve this problem once and for all. It filters the water going into your dishwasher and removes the hard minerals that leave those spots. It is very affordable and even has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look with this product.

No error message and is washing fine but it is rusting all my pots and pans and my cutlery also all my glasses are coming out all cloudy the dishwaser has also always asking for salt we have put in 3 bags...

Hi, I am only a housewife but salt is a corrosive. At home depo, menards, or lowes you can get a dishwasher cleaning kit. Use that to clean your dishwasher. Next because of new state and national laws soaps had to have a change in the chemical make up to have less sulfate or something like that. My glasses were cloudy all the time. I cleaned my dishwasher and now I
only put in dawn dish soap. I don't have to use anything else. My dishes come out clean and spotless. Now you may have to do a little more cleaning on your dishes before you put them in
because your not using regular dishwasher soap but I don't have those spots. Also I put about
a fourth teaspoon of the liquid soap in the 1st cycle soap dish and another fourth teaspoon in the 2nd cycle. You may have to experiment as to the amount you need becasue of how hard your
water is. If you put too much in soap suds will come out during the wash cycles. Hope is works

We have a Bosch SHU3307UC dishwasher. Two friends swear by theirs, saying they put everything in dirty and the load always comes out clean. That does not at all work for us. My wife has to just about wash...

Put dirty stuff in will eventually keep a tech like me very busy. We love to come and charge you alot for cleaning your dishwasher. Remember the Maytag commercials where they put a cake in it? Still got the dishes clean but before long it will cost you big time. Just run everything under the tap. Pot and pans should be lightly washed also. Watch how you place the dishes. Most dishwashers spray up from the bottom. Block it, and the spray will not reach the top.

I have a greasy buildup on my dishwasher filter.

It is the grease left on dishes or pots & pans. It can be cleaned off using a good regular dishwashing detergent like Dawn in the sink, not in the dishwasher. To prevent it, scrape the dishes & pots better, and if possible, turn the temperature of the hot water up a few degrees. You should also change dishwasher detergents to a liquid, with a built in water softener.

Cleaning the hard plastic coffee pot

Patience- this may sound goofy.

In cleaning similarly difficult containers, I found a method that works for me.

Although other cleaners may work, I keep an inexpensive product which is a Simple Green knockoff called Mean Green.
It seems to be the same formula and costs a whole $5 a gallon from a dollar store.
For most cleaning, it can be heavily diluted and works better that way without leaving too much film behind.

Then (because it was there) I used the crushed charcoal purchased for the aquarium, dumped a half-cup of it into (it was a thermos), added a 1/4 cup of concentrated cleaner - and shook.

The charcoal is fairly light and not too abrasive but the shaking randomizes contact with the surface and scrubs it clean.

Uuuhh, rinse THOROUGHLY; it tastes terrible!

BTW, half mixed with water and in a spray bottle, it works great at killing insects and disabling wasp nests.
The stuff is very good at breaking surface tension and really wets anything it touches and, for the enviro fanatics, it degrades in nature.

Haier Stainless SteelDishwasher HDP18PA not washing dishes

The heater probably isn't coming on, making it so the detergent can't dissolve completely or clean very well.

To test this, pause the unit about 10 minutes into the wash cycle (hit the stop/start button) and feel the water in the bottom. It should be hot, not lukewarm.

Also, if the heater isn't working, you won't see as much steam come out when you open the door at the end of the cycle.

Until you get it fixed, try using the pots/pans cycle (I use it for every load with this machine).
