Playstation 3 power issue

I have not personally experienced this problem but reading up on the problem looks like changing the blu ray at 24hz setting (if on turn off and vice versa) resolves the issue. Other than than double check to ensure you are not set up for component in the settings, if that fails may want to replace your HDMI cable as it is not carrying the sound signal as it should.

Try switching the power off again, if it keeps doing the same thing then call customer support, depending on how old is your PS3 they'll just fix the optical drive at no charge. If your PS3 is really old then you can try changing your optical drive yourself, first buying one on ebay depending the model you have and then go to youtube and they have videos on how to do it yourself. It won't cost you more than $80 to buy an optical drive.

1. Turn off Playstation®3.

2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.

3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps

4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.

5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button

6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

I am having the same exact issue myself. Starting a month or two ago, it got harder and harder to get PS3 games to play. Now it plays anything that is not blu-ray based. I would be very interested in hearing how you are able to fix the problem.

However, if you do have the correct console model, then there isn’t much to know for learning how to play PS2 games on PS3. Simply insert the game CD or DVD (many original Playstation games are also supported thankfully), and the game will start up. Sometimes, it will tell you that you can’t play the game, but simply hook your PS3 up via wireless or ethernet connection and update the firmware (which also provides improved compatibility with newer versions of Blu-ray discs). Often, this will fix the problems, but not all PS and PS2 games are supported (although most are).

Learning how to play PS2 games on PS3 is easy, but if you just randomly picked a Playstation 3 model out at your local retailer, you might have a model lacking in backwards compatibility. One reason they didn’t include such compatibility with all models is an issue of cost, as it saved Sony some money to not include such a feature on all of the models. When they first started selling PS3s for $400, they were losing several hundred dollars (although they are at least breaking even now). Unfortunately, both the new 80 Gb and 160 Gb PS3 models are lacking in such compatibility, so you’ll need to find older models to support your older games.

Hi. this is a basic power supply issue. it has failed. you will need to replace the internal power board(supply). this will fix your issues.

maybe u could send this back to the company and tell them that its not working correctly
