I receive no picture but I do hear sound. The screen is black but it looks like the picture is rolling some (like when you have a VCR set to channel 3 and the TV is set to channel 4). As far as the blinking codes go here is what I was told from my wife and what I saw, my wife said she thought she saw the orange LAMP OUT led flash a few times. I have removed the lamp to inspect it for damage, I have reinstalled the lamp and when I power up the system the POWER led blinks 24 times then stays on (GREEN) I have not seen the LAMP OUT led blink. Here are a few other things we have noticed, when my wife first saw this she turned the TV off and let it set for a few minutes then turned it back on, everything was fine but after a few minutes the picture went black again, we could here the sound but no picture, we repeated this procedure a few more times. Now the TV will turn on but there is no picture even if I turn off the set overnight. Here are the troubleshooting things I have done and the results.
1. I have removed all AV and HDMI inputs and connected the Coaxial cable directly to the cable input on the TV and I get sound but I do not get a picture on all channels but I do get a few pictures on some of the channels.
2. I reconnected the cable box to the TV through the cable input (not the video input) and I get sound but no picture on any channels.
3. I connected a DVD to the HDMI input and I do not see or hear anything from that video input.
4. I connected a game consol to the side video input and I get no sound or picture here either.

here you find a lot of support for your problem. note also that for some model do you need a software upgrade.

for others television
We have recently learned that a limited number of BRAVIA (Flat
Screen) and Grand WEGA (Rear Projection LCD) televisions manufactured
through November 2005 temporarily may not, after several months
(depending upon usage), turn on or off due to a software issue. This
problem is easily resolved with a simple software update provided by
Sony at no charge.
Not all BRAVIA or Grand WEGA
televisions are affected. No safety issues exist with your TV. If you
have already experienced this software issue, the television can be
temporarily reset by disconnecting the AC Power Cord from the wall
outlet, waiting at least 30 seconds and then reconnecting the AC power
cord to the wall outlet. After this reset procedure, the television
should work properly until another several months of use has
accumulated.
To determine if your unit may be affected,
please select your television model and enter the 7-digit serial number
in the boxes below. The serial number can be found on the back of the
television.

Did you try a power reset on the tv???
Turn off the television.
IMPORTANT:
For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes
after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before
continuing with the following steps.Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
NOTE: If the
television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it
from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the
wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power
strip or surge protector and not the television.Turn on the television.

Sounds more like the video control board to me. You'll find that video drive is fundamental reason why these go 'black'

Thank you for help Sedonix, would you know what the part number is or where to buy a replacement bulb for a Sony XL-2400 Lamp
Ok I have changed out the bulb for a new one and there is no change. The TV still has sound but no picture?
I did the power reset a few times with no change.
is this a dealer item or a service tech call, or can it be changed by me?
I looked at this post and i did this reset before i posed here. there was no change in the TV
The Sony Tech department was the first place i called when the trouble started, there exact answer to me was "I'm not sure what the problem is, whithout the diagnastic code there is no way for us to help you, you may think on sending it in for service" so i dont think they will help again.
Thank you for the help, but as I said in the last post, Sony has no answers for me, i was on the phone for over an hour with them the first time with no resolution at all.
I have tried the Sony Tech support with no help, changed out the bulb and have done the power down reset of the TV, nothing so far has helped.
