Iam having the same problem with my coffee maker. I have made many cups of coffe and it's still has the same problem... Any suggestions/solutions would be greatly appreciated....

Same problem here. I noticed the plastic taste in the first unit I bought. Called Mr. Coffee and they sent me a free replacement. I ran some vinegar+water mix through it a couple of times, then a water cycle to rinse, and then brewed a small pot... still getting a plastic taste from the new unit. Two units, one sent from Mr. Coffee, both ruin my coffee with a plastic taste.

Brand new and the unit's plastic contents still out-gassing causing that smell. I have yet to make coffee, I just ran water through it. Horrible but hopeful. I'll wait a week, then if it doesn't resolve, I'm taking it back.

Some pots end up with horrible plastic taste and smell. It will go away for a few pots but always reappears. Can't figure out what triggers the problem.

  • azengarden Jan 30, 2009

SAME THING! RAN WATER THROUGH TWICE, THEN COFFEE AND IT TASTES AND SMELLS LIKE PLASTIC. AND OURS WAS A $70 MODEL! IF YOU CAN TASTE IT, YOU ARE INGESTING IT. SLOW POISON DAILY! HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A HAMILTON BEACH $70 COFFEE MAKER. aRE THEY TRYING TO POISON US OR WHAT. cHEAP JERKS!

  • azengarden Jan 30, 2009

If you can taste the plastic, your are drinking in the chemicals. Don't! Over time this can make you very sick! They surely know about the problem but are trying to avoid a recall no doubt. The are just being cheap. They've switched to a cheaper way of making the machine and this is the result. Besides, even if it wasn't dangerous, why should anyone have to drink crappy coffee every day?

  • azengarden Mar 06, 2009

You cannot fix the plastic taste of out-gassing plastics. RETURN your coffee makers. We solved the problem by buying a $30 glass French press! No more plastic taste, great coffee and no more replacing the machine every year when it 'conveniently' breaks down. We put the coffee in a stainless carafe which keeps it hot throughout the day.

We Americans need to show the manufacturers that we are NOT sheep and we are NOT stupid! We do not want coffee made from cheap plastic that out-gases chemicals into our morning cup of Joe. Money is all the bean counters understand, the bottom-line, forget what it may do to their customers over time. All of us must RETURN these dangerous products! If they can't enough make sales to counteract the cost of a recall or class action lawsuit, perhaps they will go back to the old way of making their products, the way that tasted fine and worked for more than a year.

Same problem here. Brand new Mr. Coffee drip coffee maker. We didn't notce the problem at first but after about 3 pots the smell and taste is undeniable and seems to be getting worse. Ironically the new coffeee maker is replacing a 10 year old Mr. Coffee brand maker that made fine coffee, until it broke.

Just because its made of plastic doesn't mean it should taste like plastic! The engineers made a mistake in design! Get your money back and don't risk taking in carcinogens!

This is my second day with my machine, and after I brewed some tea.... it smelt and taste like plastic. Also after brewing when u pick up the machine it sounds like there's still water in it? What do I do?

Run several cups of just plan water through your B-40, The plastic taste and smell should disappear, And, there will always be about 8 oz. of water that will remain in your B-40 at all times, after first use !!!

Strong plastic smell and taste on a new Keurig Platnum coffee mak

I had the same problem and I discovered that after running 3 resevoirs full of water through the machine at 192 degrees , it got rid of the plastic smell. Set the cup size at the largest size mug and then just open the lid and close it , hit brew and let it fill the cup. Dump the water in the sink and repeat until you go through at least 3 resevoirs. The smell should be gone by then.

Mr Coffee Maker FTX25 - coffee tastes bad

Try running a 1/3 white vinigar -2/3 water mix into the brewer, let it brew, then run several pots of clear water through it. This should clean up any bad taste.

Lasting plastic smell

Obviously, this should not be! First, we need to know if the coffee maker is working correctly. If you have a candy/oven thermometer, check the output temp of the water. Be careful...it will be hot! The correct temp should be about 180-185 degrees. If it is hotter than that...return the machine. It has a defective thermostat.

What you can do about the taste: try taking some baking soda and mix it with the feed water. Use about 2 tablespoons in at least two cups of water. Then, add plain water. The baking soda can't hurt you but throw it away and clean the pot. Now, take some water and run it through. If the taste is gone...enjoy! If not, try another unit.
