Blackberry 9000 bold, screen displayed ''standby mode, press Mute'' I do not know where the mute key is, then the screen went black, I R&R'd the battery, never powered up, plugged in the charger, no change, swapped to my spare battery, same thing, phone dead, no power, no red led indicator when you install the battery, no charge indicator when the charger is plugged in.....phone's only 3 weeks old....
Your going to have to contact your phone company about it considering it is a software issue. They are going to have to replace or exchange your phone for a new one, or direct you to a technician who can most likely help you out. Sorry your having so much trouble, hope i've helped.
Your phone has been blacklisted from whatever carrier you're trying to use. The solution is to unlock (go to www.unlockbb.com if it's not unlocked already) and try another carrier.

I don't have service mode specifications but I do have a Samsung and looked around for how to get it in service mode some time ago because the HDMI cables somehow disconnected themselves a lot. Thought it was an electronic problem but it turned out to be a parenting problem instead SO I have never used this information and can not vouch for it. I cut and paste it from a note I copied from a forum entry to use at your discretion:
First post:
To enter "Service Mode" Press the remote - control keys in this sequence :
From Standby Info-Menu-Mute-Power On
- The buttons are active in the service mode.
Remote - Control Key : Power, Arrow Up, Arrow Down, Arrow Left, Arrow Right, Menu, Enter, Number Key(0~9)
Careful though there are things you shouldn't touch in this menu.

Good luck. Just a basic suggestion you probably don't need: keep track of any changes made by writing them down so you can put it all back if you have to.

While not in a call, simply press down on the volume keys (the first set of buttons on the right side of the handset) until the sound is off (this mutes actions like playing videos, apps, et cetera).
If you're trying to silent the ring, then highlight the speaker/sound icon on your handset's homescreen, select it with the optical trackpad, and scroll down to select the option "silent".
If you're in a call and you want to mute it so that the person on the other end of the line cannot hear you, there are two options: first you may select the mute option on the screen itself by highlighting it with you trackpad and selecting it. The simplest way, in my opinion would be to use the button located on the very top of the handset, to the right side. Depress this during a call, it's very easy and the screen will display whether or not this was successful.
Remove the battery place it back in and charge the battery for a while. After doing this press the standby key that's found on the top corner edge of your BB 9000. Switch the blackberry on and press the standby key once more. This would solve the problem.
The mute key is on the top of the BlackBerry, on the right side. It's not raised at all, so it's hard to see, but if you look at the top of the BlackBerry you'll see it -- it looks like a speaker with a line through it.
