I have a pretty old AX45V mobo and usb 1.1 I want to be able ti utilise hi speed usb2. I have a number of devices including my daughters ipod which keeps giving me messages Hi speed device in non hi speed port. I don't want to have to upgrade my PC. It still performs all the functions that I need from it, however I want usb2 if possible. Is it only a matter of a usb2 PCI card (plug and play) or do I need more. If I only need a card, is there any one that is more suited to my mobo. I run XP home. Any help appreciated.

Usually it's best to consult manufacturer's info on your computer. If not available, you can check it by going to start menu>settings>control panel>system>device manager and then look for "universal serial bus controllers" - several devices should be visible here and if you have USB2 it will be clearly stated (e.g. something along the lines of "USB2 Enhanced Host Controller"). Generally I would say if your computer is less than 4-5 years old, it will probably have USB2. Hope this helps, Raf
Had the same problem today. I finally noticed that the pin bay on the enclosure was large enough to allow the pins to be offset by one pin set. The open pins were hidden by wires. Once I carefully aligned the pins, everything worked fine.

this is a common error with operating systems and devices.
If you go into my Computer/system/device manager. And remove the installed USB devices. shutdown the computer, and reboot it. then try putting your USB device in.
What general happens, is that if you have had an older device in the USB port at any time, the port configures itself to this setting. options are to try another port on the computer ( some older ports only support usb1.1 )
ensure you have up to date drivers on the connecting device and on the connecting computer.

Try opening up the device manager and unistall everything in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Then reboot and let windows reinstall the USB controllers. Windows should now be able to recognize properly USB2 devices.
sounds not, some of the older systems only have 1.1, Usb 2 is not all that old (about 2-3 years).
you can upgrade to USB2 bu adding a USB2 PCI card to your system, this would give you some ports on the back and it may be possible to link the ports on the front to the new PCI card to upgrade those as well (depending on how they are connected to the mobo)
you can get USB2 cards with a Pin header which would allow for a pin block connection.
It sounds like your Windows XP might be missing the USB2 drivers. Try going here http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/ and download the driver needed and see if that fixes your issue.
